Why isn't it just a case of reading packets off the unix socket and writing on
to the udp socket? The various sockets will take care of whatever
translations need to happen. Also, if the udp takes the packet over the
ethernet, the kernel will take care of fragmentation. That might be slow, but
it will work, and the daemon doesn't have to worry about it.
