Is it waiting on disk? (r b w = run block wait)
bi= blocks of io in, bo=blocks of io out to disk.
si/so are pages being swapped out.

if you look inside an uml (top,ps etc) - is it 100% idle?
0% usr and 0% sys, system load at 0.00 ?

I did have these running fine earlier the only change I made was to change
the rootfs to ext3, add a second partition (ext3) and install webmin.....
but even going back to earlier versions without these differences I am
still seeing the same cpu "hogging"

what is "earlier versions" ?
other root_fs or other kernel? or both?

- uninstall/shutdown webmin and compare
- revert to reiser/ext2 whatever - and compare
- still hogging the cpu? check for a hacker inside you uml - maybe he installed
  a trojan/rootkit or similar "dirty tools" :D

Subject: [uml-user] poor performance

Having quite a bit of trouble getting UML to perform properly... each time
I start up a vm ti takes all the available cpu and keeps it... if I start
2 they share all the available cpu.. the result is that the cpu runs at
100% all the time...

I did have these running fine earlier the only change I made was to change
the rootfs to ext3, add a second partition (ext3) and install webmin.....
but even going back to earlier versions without these differences I am
still seeing the same cpu "hogging"

what could be causing this performance grief??? been fighting with this for
several days now.
