That worked just great, at least with the 18F4550, I'll try with the
18F1220 later on.

This 4k7 to VPP is the problem, because usbpicprog has a 2k2 from the
generator to the output.
Please connect a diode + this 4k7 in stead:
VDD -----|>|-----|||||-----VPP_target
