Release 0.57 is out. This release mainly includes bug fixes. Some message header changes were made as well added the ability to use the arrow keys to move through the message list. As always email me at the address in the README.txt if you have any questions at all about installing or using the product. Or if you just want to let me know you use it and what you think. It would be great to hear from some users.
After some bug fixes and a lot of work the software now supports printing from windows or linux. You can select a printer from the list of installed printers and see what port the printer is on. Currently there is no support for multiple copies or page orientation. I have tested this with several HP printers both laserjets and inkjets have am able to succesfully print to all of them. If you have a printer you can't print to please email me at the address in the README.txt file. Or if you have ideas for improvement email there too.
The project pace is picking up again and I will be releaseing new versions at least once a week. I was off on medical leave since september but I am back now.
I would love to get any feedback from people that have used the email client, downloaded and didn't use it, or tried it and didn't like it. This feedback is vital to the development of the software. Without feedback I don't know if what I am doing makes sence to anyone else or not, or there may be some features that are wanted but not yet implemented.
Please email at the address listed in the README.txt file included with the program.
You can now delete and create folders via the folder menu on the menu bar. This does work but I am stiil working on some other aspects of it to make it more user friendly.
The creation and deletion of imap folders should be working in Mondays release. If you have any questions email me at the address in the README.txt file.
There is no need to edit the config file by hand any more.
When you start the program for the first time it will take you through a configure session and set itself up.
There is now a settings menu option that will allow you to change the config file options when you are logged in. No more having to edit the config file directly. Also the client.cfg file is now called profiles.cfg. This change is explained in the CHANGELOG.txt.
Most importantly this will allow the program to save preferences on a per user basis, where before preferences were saved from whoever used the program last.
When using the program for the first time you no longer have to edit the config file either. See version 0.50 release notes for details.
The user guides were released today. Check the files section to download them.
There are three different formats AbiWord, HTML, and Microsoft Word 97.
All files are tar and gzipped.
Eventually the documention will move to the website when it comes online, however for now you can get it from the files section.
Since I feel that it is time, and the program has matured enough, a user guide to the email program will be released tommarrow.
I will release it in many formats including:
HTML
Word
AbiWord
The documentation includes screen shots and will give an overview on how to use the program.
Changes will be made to the document over time however, I have included information on how to use features that may not currently be functional. I did this to lessen the updates the documentation would need so that I could concentrate more on programing.
You can now move messages into folders by right clicking the message subject and selecting move to... then the folder you want to move the message (or messages) to.
I am now able to start working on the project again. I should put out a release tommarrow.
The project is not dead. I am still working on some changes. Here is the scoop. I am being paid by a company to create this email client. For the past two weeks they have had me working on a international electronic catalog system. Hopefully this week (definatly next week) I will be able to continue my full efforts to the email program. I apologize if this has caused any users problems. But do not worry because the project is most definatly not dead.... read more
I put a new release out tonight but there will be no new releases until July 30th. I am trying to get the message moving into folders working as well as some other minor things and I feel it is best to not release until I make a significant change to the program. That will be on the 30th of this month.
However if I make unbelievable headway sooner I will release sooner. So check back every couple of days.
A big thanks to Eamon Brosnan for creating the new usablemail logo. This new logo can be seen on the new login screen for the program.
There was a problem with version 0.43 where it did not include all of the files. This is now fixed as of 7-23 at 10:48am Eastern Time
We now have a real login screen into your email. You can also set server parameters from the login screen. The program no longer crashes on a failed login but will show you an error and allow you to login again.
I think that we have moved further along in the project now. We have alot of things mostly working so I thought it best that the Development Status should reflect that.
We have started the message printing under Linux. You need to have the lpd printing system installed. If you are using another printing system in linux email me and I will include support for it.
Unfortunatly windows printing is not yet available. This is a limitation of Tk not the email program.
If anyone knows of a way to print under Windows from python I would appreciate all you ideas. Credit will be given to anyone who has a working method of printing in Windows.
In todays release 0.37 I have got the imap folders working. You can now click on folders and subfolders and view the messages in them. See the CHANGELOG for details.
Due to some personal issues I was not able to work on the project since last wed. However I did get alot of work done today. New in todays release are things like semi working folder list, working audio notification under linux, and fixed bugs. Please check out the changelog for all of the details. You can now expect releases every day again mon-fri (except for this thursday, its 4th of July).
As always write me about problems, questions, or suggestions. I will read and respond to all messages recieved usually within the same day.
We have a new mailing list. Check out the lists section. The new list is called usablemail-updates. This list will have daily messages sent to it about upcoming features, status updates, as well as bugs that have been found.
Thanks goes to Napur Saurabh for creating the buttons for our program. I think he did a great job. If you are wondering why we changed the buttons from the origonal release its because the buttons ended up being copyprotected (unbeknownst to me :( ). So Napur decided to help us out. Please email me at let me know what you like or don't like about the program or the new buttons.
I have forgoten to include another requirment.
Along with PIL, and Python you will also need to get Pmw. It can be found at:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/pmw/Pmw.0.8.5.tar.gz?download
Sorry I had forgoten about this. I will update the README in the next version to reflect these changes.
The project is moving along nicely.
I hope to have a version ready for some serious testing by the end of next week.
If you would like to see our progress please download the latest file. New files are uploaded daily M-F so be sure to check the changelog for whats new in each release.
If you have issues installing or using the software please email me.
