hi all, i thought i would send this to you as i can't remember which of you are on the cyposium list that came out of the meeting we had a couple of weeks ago. this meeting was to discuss & plan 121212, but we ended up talking more about the cyposium than the festival. since then, vicki & i have had a couple more discussions & i've drafted an outline of the festival & a call for proposals. we'd very much like to hear your feedback on this as soon as possible, so that we can announce it, as the time will go round very quickly. we have stuck with the idea of having a programme of remounted work from past festivals, followed by a one-day festival (on 12/12/12) that can be open to performances in any platform. the main criteria is that work is live and the platform is publicly accessible. i have said that we are not interested in pre-recorded work or work that uses the internet only as a broadcast mechanism. feedback on how clear this is would be great. festival info: http://upstage.org.nz/blog/?page_id=3317 call: http://upstage.org.nz/blog/?p=3320 the pages are password protected, the password being 121212 (tricky, eh!) any feedback, thoughts, ideas etc much appreciated. we are also interested in your feedback on last year's curatorial panel, & whether you have any interest in being involved in some capacity this year. it will work a bit differently, with the changed structure - remounting past work & opening up to different platforms. we are thinking that we might need a selection panel that includes people with experience in other platforms. what do you think? thanks, h : ) -- ____________________________________________________________ helen varley jamieson: creative catalyst he...@cr... http://www.creative-catalyst.com http://www.make-shift.net http://www.upstage.org.nz ____________________________________________________________ |

hi everyone, we are planning an open meeting in mid-january to discuss ideas for the next UpStage Festival, and invite anyone who is interested to come along. next year's UpStage festival will be 121212; december 2012 is a significant astrological turning point, and similarly this festival will mark a turning point for UpStage. it's the last one we can do with this particular number format, & it's also 10 years since we came up with the idea of UpStage. during next year there will also probably be some big changes in the software. so 121212 is an opportunity for us to celebrate what we've achieved in the last 10 years and look forward to the future. if you would like to have input in some way to the 121212 UpStage festival - whether you have ideas about what we could do, or if you'd like to help out but aren't sure how - please come to an open meeting about it in january. everybody is welcome. i have set up a doodle so that we can find a time that will work for as many people as possible: http://www.doodle.com/vv47b6d8yt8ffeib thanks, h : ) -- ____________________________________________________________ helen varley jamieson: creative catalyst he...@cr... http://www.creative-catalyst.com http://www.make-shift.net http://www.upstage.org.nz ____________________________________________________________ |

dear 11:11:11 panelists, once again vicki& i would like to thank you all for your involvement in& contribution to the festival this year by being on the curatorial panel; we hope that it was fun& interesting for you :) we are pretty satisfied with how everything went - the shows were generally very good, some were really great,& although we did still haved technical problems on the day we were much better prepared& supported than last year,& once again the artists were all very professional about it. we've had good feedback from audiences& now we are slowing compiling the documentation. it would be great to have some feedback from you about the curatorial panel& your role on it. as you know, this was the first time we tried a panel like this, so we'd now like to evaluate it to see whether we can improve on it for next year, or whether there might be some other way to give people roles within the festival organisation. any thoughts, feedback, comments, etc about your role& the process are much appreciated :) we are going to have an open meeting in january to begin planning for 121212& you are very welcome to join that, or to email any ideas/thoughts/etc if you can't come to the meeting. enter your available times here: http://www.doodle.com/vv47b6d8yt8ffeib with regards to funding, we have not achieved the level of donations that we'd hoped for, therefore we're working on rejigging the budget& we hope that you will bear with us until we can work out what we can pay you. helen& vicki :) -- ____________________________________________________________ helen varley jamieson: creative catalyst he...@cr... http://www.creative-catalyst.com http://www.avatarbodycollision.org http://www.upstage.org.nz ____________________________________________________________ |

congratulations and huge thanks to everyone for contributing to a fantastic 11:11:11 UpStage Festival!!! the shows were all great & we had good and responsive audiences :) as you know there was a bit of running around backstage to get things working, & martin's marvellous mirror ended up being extremely useful!! it was fantastic to have paul and martin there to call on this year :) now we can all have a big rest ... & then think about the documentation ... & further performances ... but first, sleep! well done everyone! h : ) -- ____________________________________________________________ helen varley jamieson: creative catalyst he...@cr... http://www.creative-catalyst.com http://www.avatarbodycollision.org http://www.upstage.org.nz ____________________________________________________________ |

hi all, as usual the festival time is just flying by! we're two thirds of the way through already, & the last block of performances begins in just over an hour ... & it's all been going really well; the shows are great, the audiences are great, & altho we have had a few tech problems, with the help of paul & martin it has all been dealt with :) the web cams are working really well on the mirror server, so in the third block "is this on?" and "where are the clouds?" will be performed from the mirror. i've updated the links on the schedule (on the home page of the web site). the other problem with media being unassigned after a reset hasn't happened yet, so it must have just been a one-off. i've taken a few screengrabs - haven't managed to get all of the shows, but i've put them onto the gallery page & also the facebook group. i've only managed to save a few of the logs so i hope you have all been doing that for your own shows. below is an excerpt from the beginning of "property & theft" second performance, that gives you an idea of where the audience were coming from, and the nodes that were watching, and the lively atmosphere :) so, break digits everyone for the last performances, & i hope all of you who are still awake & don't have lives to rush off to will join us in the foyer after the final performance, vicki's show "string games", for a celebratory after-party with dancing & general merriment & much toasting of your wonderful work!!! :) h : ) hi hello hi whats up <Rita> hello! hi hi Rita hello rita! Hello from Eindhoven!! hello from Linz hello from london hello from athens how are you? how's the node going in eindhoven? great Hello from the node in Norway and there? hello from London too hello from Augsburg hej! how is it in norway? snow? the telemuseum is one of our regular nodes! All good, the node is working and the sound is good hi hi from rotterdam great! great, here too :D yay! Nice bedroom :P isn't it? Not too many people this time of the day though, most people work and the students who visit have left now yea, same here Hello from Toronto But its a big screen, so many visitors during the day have had the opportunity to watch why is spelled "gypsy"? hi toronto! hi that's great happy to be here hello from amsterdam wow people everywhere! -- ____________________________________________________________ helen varley jamieson: creative catalyst he...@cr... http://www.creative-catalyst.com http://www.avatarbodycollision.org http://www.upstage.org.nz ____________________________________________________________ |

ok we have "is this on?" & "cyberian chalk circle" running fine with their web cams on the mirror - yay martin! :) so those of you who have the next show avs for these shows, please don't put them on the stage, we will paste in the link. katarina - please check whether your cam is still working properly; if it's not, then we can transfer "clouds" to the mirror as well. no-one else is using web cams, are they? everything else seems to be running fine now ... h : ) -- ____________________________________________________________ helen varley jamieson: creative catalyst he...@cr... http://www.creative-catalyst.com http://www.avatarbodycollision.org http://www.upstage.org.nz ____________________________________________________________ |

hi everyone, the first block of shows went really - great work from everyone and a great response from the audience too :) we also received 2 donations, of nz$111 each, which is really great. i took some screengrabs & have uploaded some to a gallery page, http://upstage.org.nz/blog/?page_id=3193. i didn't manage to get all of the shows due to being busy checking out the possible tech problems, & i also didn't manage to save any of the chat logs, so i hope you have all been managing to do that. (please email your logs to me if you have saved them, so that we can keep as complete documentation as possible from the whole festival). so - half an hour to go until we kick off for the second block! break digits everyone! h : ) -- ____________________________________________________________ helen varley jamieson: creative catalyst he...@cr... http://www.creative-catalyst.com http://www.avatarbodycollision.org http://www.upstage.org.nz ____________________________________________________________ |

yes - altho at this stage it does seem to be an isolated incident. vale reset the magfalda stage again and nothing disappeared, so hopefully it was just a hiccup in cyberspace. but - better safe than sorry! i suggest that you save your log then reset the stage immediately after your show, and check it straight away to ensure all the media is still there. then you have time before your next show if anything does need to be reassigned, but hopefully it will be fine. h : ) On 11/11/11 8:49 AM, Marlena Corcoran wrote: > Hmm, this sounds like a recommendation NOT to reboot immediately-immediately before show time. > > Happy 11.11.11!! hi inge, sorry to hear that about birgit! i hope she recovers quickly ... i'm cc-ing this to paul as he is standing by to trouble-shoot & is looking at the web cams right now, as we had a bumpy start with a web cam problem in the cyberian chalk circle. however, katarina has tested with her cam & it is working fine, so it looks like the problem is not at UpStage. (unfortunately i can't test as i still have a problem with evocam quitting every time i try to open it :() if anyone else out there is able to test their web cam, please do so & report back ... apart from that, the shows are going well!! & lots of audience, 31 at the cyberian chalk circle ... h : ) On 10/11/11 11:32 PM, Inge Hoonte wrote: > Hi, > > I've had to change the feed from Birgit's laptop cam to an external > cam and am having trouble with a logitech install. Hi, I've had to change the feed from Birgit's laptop cam to an external cam and am having trouble with a logitech install. Evocam is recognizing the feed, I can see it in the program, but not uploadingthrough FTP. Seems to be a problem with quota exceeded, not sure how to change this. I will try again in the morning with another laptop with built-in cam. I'm pretty sure that will work but want to have some bakc up plans. dear artists, we are nearly ready to begin! :) as you flex your digits & warm up your keyboards, here's some last reminders & information: ** RESET YOUR STAGE* it's good practice to reset your stage before a performance; this clears the text in the chat log, to give you a fresh slate for each show & making it easy to save separate logs after each performance. * first save the log: add /log to the end of the stage url, hit enter, then copy & paste the text chat into a text document and save it. * then reset the stage: go to the edit screen for your stage and scroll to the bottom; put a tick by "reset the stage" and click "reset". while you are in the edit screen, remember to check the splash message and if necessary update it. ** LIVE LINKS* i will add the live links to the schedule about an hour before we begin, and make the schedule page be the home page of the UpStage web site for the duration of the festival. this means that when people arrive at the home page they can immediately click through to the current performance. if you want to give people a url, either http://www.upstage.org.nz or http://upstage.org.nz/blog will do the trick, and they will be able to click on the live links directly on the home page. once the links are on the web site, your stages will be accessible to the public; if you are doing any work during the festival (e.g. last minute rehearsals or reloading media) just bear in mind that someone could drop in; you can ignore them, or explain that your show isn't on yet & ask them to come back later. ** NEXT SHOW AVS* as vicki emailed, she's added these to your stages. please check which show is following you in the schedule and remember to put the avatar on stage at the end of your performance (we'll help if needed). if you can manage to put the donations hat on as well, that would be great. ** OPENING AND AFTER PARTY *you are of course all warmly invited & encouraged to join the opening (just a few hours from now - 10.45am nz time, 10.45pm tonight european time) and the after party (10.30am saturday nz time and 10.30pm european time friday night) for formal and informal celebratory improvisations and cyberfun :) both in the 11:11:11 foyer, http://upstage.org.nz:8084/stages/111111 ** NODES* we've ended up with 11 nodes, which is perfect as we also have 11 shows. there will be a node in second life as well as 4 nodes in new zealand & 6 around europe. they are listed in the schedule so you can see where your show is being screened. ** RECORDINGS OF THE SHOWS* we have a fantastic team of volunteer recorders who will record nearly all of the performances; i'll also take screengrabs and save the chat logs from as many of the performances as i can. if you are documenting your show, and/or any of the other shows, with recordings and/or screengrabs, please share them with us afterwards. ** DON'T PANIC *if something goes wrong, don't panic! :) the 11:11:11 foyer stage is the first place to go for help - there should always be one or more of the curators there during the festival. there also are some helpful bullet points on the workshop page (http://upstage.org.nz:8084/admin/). in the unlikely event of something happening that prevents you from being able to do your show, please skype helen (skype nickname sighreena) or vicki (skype nickname exitstagewest). if you lose the internet connection completely, please text helen (+49 17699083788) or vicki ( +64 21778067). helen is in munich & vicki in new zealand so if one of us is asleep the other one should be awake. ** ANYTHING ELSE?* please send any other questions to the 111111 list, because if you're wondering about something there's a pretty good chance someone else is wondering the same thing, & we can answer to the list. you have all put in heaps of effort to make great shows, thank you! now we have the fun part of performing and seeing them all ... break a digit, & have a "one"derful 11:11:11! helen & vicki :) -- ____________________________________________________________ helen varley jamieson: creative catalyst he...@cr... http://www.creative-catalyst.com http://www.avatarbodycollision.org http://www.upstage.org.nz ____________________________________________________________ |

hey hey loevly full moon out here :) i have put the next show and foyer [lost?] badge on each of the stages they are called zz_*name* so grab the one that's the show after yours and put it on stage at the end of your half hour [there will be a curator to help with this] something is up with flash for me it seems so they are not working as seamlessly as the test one last night- they require a right click to activate - but do work for audience also at the saem time we will put the url in the chat log [also a right or ctrl click to work] see you online tomorrow! yay! break a digit! cheers vicki ") ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈∆∆≈≈≈≈≈ : vicki smith : w : www.upstage.org.nz : e : vic...@pa... : s : +64 3 753 3012 [static] : t : +64 21 778 067 [travelling] : http://tinyurl.com/vickismithBoatProject : http://www.avatarbodycollision.org : http://www.flickr.com/photos/upstage ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈ |

hi everyone, further to the email i sent the other day about what's expected of you as hosts on the day of the festival, i've made a page on the wiki with that info, slightly edited to include links to foyer stage & schedule (which will also be the home page of the web site for the day). http://111111upstagefestival.wikispaces.com/hosting+on+the+day i've added a bit more about emergency plans, & am cc-ing the wonderful martin & paul on this; paul is our on-call technician, and martin has very kindly set up a mirror of the server on his own server. so in the extremely unlikely event of something like the meltdown we had last year happening again, we are much better prepared :) we will be able to quickly transfer the shows to the mirror, and paul will be able to start working on repairs immediately. i've included emergency contact details at the end of this page, & have put in what i know of your skype & mobile numbers. please check it & add/amend as necessary. thanks, h : ) -- ____________________________________________________________ helen varley jamieson: creative catalyst he...@cr... http://www.creative-catalyst.com http://www.avatarbodycollision.org http://www.upstage.org.nz ____________________________________________________________ |

Greetings all it is 11:11 here in Aotearoa /NZ an asteroid is passing by reminding us of the luminary event about to ensue with the 11:11:11 festival! - Yay :D thanks for forwarding the festival info around and linking to your FB, blogs et al! = = = Artists: You will shortly see the next stage avatars [not props ;)] in your stage - to join the donations hat at that helen added [prop] >> these need to be put on stage at the end of your show as the next show starting time aproaches and also the link put in the chat [curators will do this] we will have also the badge to put on the stage as a way for others to find their way back to the foyer [you can leave it on stage when you're not there] = = = Tech notes: : before the festival [and before your shows especially] restart you machine and browser [good fix for many ills anyway - but especially to avoid odd bugs IMPT: clear your cache before you start your show : Thank you Martin! we have got a mirror server set up - so "in the event of an emeregency follow the instructions of your crew - they know what to do" : Artists AND Curators Watching other shows : please try to remember to attend other shows as AUDIENCE (i.e. not logged in). this is for 2 reasons: !. firstly, you get a better experience of the show when you are not distracted by the player tools (animating avs in the wardrobe etc) 2. secondly it makes it easier for us to record accurate audience numbers. - you can either log in & out, or another easy way to manage it is to use 2 different browser applications - have one where you are logged in and access the foyer and your own show's stage, and another where you are not logged in for everyone else's shows. counting down! 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2... = = = cheers helen and vicki ") festival architects ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈∆∆≈≈≈≈≈ : vicki smith : w : www.upstage.org.nz : e : vic...@pa... : s : +64 3 753 3012 [static] : t : +64 21 778 067 [travelling] : http://tinyurl.com/vickismithBoatProject : http://www.avatarbodycollision.org : http://www.flickr.com/photos/upstage ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈ |

hi all, just to let you know that the schedule has now been updated so that the second block ends at 4pm european time. we do still have a gap in the middle, but it is just half an hour & i think we will probably welcome that for a toilet/cigarette/coffee/food break :) if your time has changed, you will know because we've been emailing about it. but please double-check the schedule now, especially to see what's coming after you so that you know which of the next show props to use when. http://upstage.org.nz/blog/?page_id=2828 i've also started to put the donations hat onto your stages, but still have about half to do as many of you are in rehearsal :) h : ) -- ____________________________________________________________ helen varley jamieson: creative catalyst he...@cr... http://www.creative-catalyst.com http://www.avatarbodycollision.org http://www.upstage.org.nz ____________________________________________________________ |
