Hello, I'm trying to backup the UPM password app, but it says, 'problem performing file operation', when I press the backup button in the menu. I am able to sync with Dropbox, and I get a UPM.db for within my Dropbox, but I'm not sure if that's the same things as backing up, and importing it to a new phone. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks! Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android
Your UPM db was most likely overwritten by hers when she saved her UPM db to your Dropbox. AFAIK, there is no way to recover/revert the UPM db file back to your db. Only thing I can suggest is to have her backup her UPM to her own Dropbox and you can then manually overwrite the UPM.db file on your Dropbox with the your UPM db. EDIT: Dropbox does have folder history options but those look to be locked away behind their paid storage options.

You need to allow UPM access permissions to the "SD card". This is done by going to the Settings for the phone, click on Apps, find/click on UPM, click on Permissions, click on Storage, then allow UPM access to your Storage. The storage location that UPM uses is: /storage/emulated/0
Hi Ben UPM is available in the Google Play store again. It was taken down a while back as I hadn't completed some recent changes to the listing requirements. I submitted the updated details and the listing has been restored. Adrian
I just bought a new android tablet, and as part of my usual setup, tried to install UPM. It appears that the UPM app is no longer in the play store. Any way to get an .apk to side-load it? Appears as if the new Java update on WIN10 listed below, breaks the GUI and causes the GUI to not render properly... v 8 upd 311 (build 1.8.0_311-b11) Anyone else have an issue with this? Let me know if additional info is needed, thx.
This phone has no SD card. I backed up upm.db to several places :) UPM seems to have transferred successfully from the Galaxy S7. But, when I try to back it up on the new phone it gives me an error. My file manager does not show a UPM dir or a /mnt dir. What am I missing? Thanx
Hi Jorge, thank you very much for your help: problem solved!
Hello Massimo, I had the same problem and i could solved it. The problem was i didn't have installed Java in my Laptop. Go To this page and download and install Java. I prefer to use the offline method to install it. https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp Et Voila, problem solved. Hope this works for you. Best Regards.
Hi Davide, thank you for your suggestion, but today I remain with the same problem, bye
Hi Massimo, I'm not familiar with Microsoft (Bill gates) Windows. Using Linux (Ubuntu 20.04) all works very fine! bye
Hello everyone, I cannot open UPM because the message is "Impossible to find the "javaw" file. Please verify the correct name of the file, then try again" (see attached file). Thank you in advance for your help!
For years I have used version 1.17 on different phones and android versions. Now I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy A42. After a clean install I expect to see the "New Database" screen, but instead I get straight to the screen: "Please enter your master password". While no database has been created. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Hi, I second that :-). However the Dropbox limit to 3 devices for free accounts does not apply to using UPM on Android. We can install UPM on all our Android devices and link to the Db in our Dropboxes. Only we can't install the Dropbox app more than 3 devices.
I just wanted to document this somewhere. I am on linux/pc box: fedora fc31. The default java version didn't work, but I was able to download one that works. It turned out that my database had become corrupt - I couldn't even open it in UPM on my PC. So I restored a backup from a month ago, and it worked fine on the PC, and also worked on my phone after sending via dropbox. I upgraded UPM on a Windows 10 PC to version 1.15 from version 1.14, and since that time the database has refused to open with the message "incorrect password". This database has open 100+ times in the past, and I KNOW that the password has not been changed. I also had a saved version of the database on Dropbox - it also failed to open with the same message. Help!
So a specific case: 1. Both clients are configured to use the same remote file. I use the Android client to add an account. 2. Synchronise this with the server. 3. Observe desktop client is unaware of server update.
I have set up my laptop and phone to synchronise to my web server, and each can read/write at leisure. However after the initial configuration either an upload, download etc. of the password file, each client seems to forget that it needs to synchronise and just starts working on its own local copy. If I make a new account on either device, that change is not propagated to the server. Is this by design? I hope there is a better solution than continually deleting/installing the android app to retrieve...
Ok, so now, good luck! Upm is a good and rocky software, unfortunately (maybe) little maintained by its developer, but things happen, life goes on.. ;-)
Good check , but I never use FTP, only SSH (and sftp/scp/rsync). I'm pretty sure it wasn't an integrity issue because clients could and did sync down from the previous server correctly. But thanks for thinking of everything possible. I really appreciate you making so much effort to help me. Set up on a desktop machine. Still errors, but now no longer includes the contents of deletefile.php. Instead, I now get an error alert reading: There's been some kind of problem deleting a file to the HTTP server. The error message is [FILE_WASNT_DELETED]. Now /v/l/a/error.log shows: PHP Warning: unlink(./upm.db): Permission denied in /var/www/upm/deletefile.php on line 46 FIXED FIXED FIXED! Tried it, didn't work. I changed the whole of /var/www (recursively) to www-data:www-data. Same symptoms. Are we stuck? If so I'll try to set up apache on a desktop machine and run it on demand. I appreciate that. I did not have the ErrorLog directive in my vhost config. I've added it. Sorry, still just the same GET and POST entries in /v/l/a/other_vhosts_access.log, and nothing in /v/l/a/error.log (except the usual couple of entries for the 'graceful' restart I did after editing the vhost config). This is after four attempted upload syncs, with each resulting in the same client-side behaviour documented in my initial report (error alert containing the full text of deletefile.php). /var/www/upm/upload.php...

..without an error log it's like being blind in the darkest night. Have you enabled Apache error log on your vhost? Thanks Davide. I don't remember using mod_security on the old server; I have done nothing to install or configure it on the new one. I do see libapache2-mod-security2 available in the repo. Do I need to install it? Nothing appears in either /v/l/a/error.log or /v/l/a/access.log when I try to perform a db upload. There is no /v/l/a/modsec_audit.log. I hope this is helpful. Are you using mod_security (1)? Have you tried (while performing a db upload) to: tail -f /var/log/apache2/error.log and tail -f /var/log/apache2/access.log again are you using mod_security (2)? Verify while performing a db upload: tail -f /var/log/apache2/modsec_audit.log obviously if you use another web server use the specific log files ;-)

I had HTTP sync working for years, then my server died. I thought I had everything re-configured on a new server but I must be missing something. I can download a more-recent database to any client (desktop or Android) but I can't upload an updated one (desktop). Hi, i love UPM. But i have a problem with syncing. On my debian Webserver there ist "deletefile.php". It ist in a Directory, which i can access via webrowser. Ich can do "Open Database from URL". I can put in my master password an see my PW. But when i sync i get the error message: "There's been some kind of problem deleting a file on the HTTP server. The HTTP error message is [Moved Permanenty}. I chmod als to 777 and i switched to user "www-data" to test, if i can create a file in my UPM-directory....
I have more. UPM is CRAP on Galaxy S10. It will not read from the SDcard. I copied my backup to my pc, and it loaded into UPM with no problems. I created a csv file, but alas the android version will not allow me to import a csv file - what crap - so I can not do anything with UPM on this S10. If this is the future of this product, then forget it!! No way am I going to input 150 entres by hand.
I got past the password issue. Not sure what it was. But I still cannot load my backup. Where is the repository? I can not find it on my system. Can anyone help on the file processing error?
I got a replacement S10 and moved my data to it. However, the UPM db did not move. I tried to load from the backup and it says "file processing error". It would be nice to know what the file error was, as other apps have no problem with the device storage. I even went so far as to uninstall the UPM app and re-install it. If, however, I try to create a new DB, it says "password doesn't match". How can I be getting a non-matching password message when I am trying to create a new db? Any help would...
This is not really a problem (I can copy and past the link to the browser) but I was thinking what is the reason of this. Problaby differences between Oracle Java and OpenJava used by ArcaOS I suppose. Any ideas?
My wife synced her UPM with my Dorpbox account and my UPM backup file was overwritten. If I now try to sync my UPM with Dropbox, it asks me for the master password and does not accept my password. I am not sure if i should enter her master password, because then it may overwrite her backup. Can anyone suggest what to do here please? Can one do more than one UPM backup to the same Dropbox account? How do you do this?

Hi. Firstly, thanks for this open password manager, and the recent update! I'm trying to install the latest version(1.15.1) on OS X Mojave but am getting an error "Unable to load Java Runtime Environment". I have the JDK installed on my machine, but JDK 12, this doesn't include the JRE since from Java 9, apps are expected to bundle Java runtime dependencies as part of the app, and so no requiring a JRE to available to run applications. Are you able to suggest how to get UPM to work given this setup?...

Hi folks, I've just released UPM 1.15.1. The only change with this version is the packaging on OS X. This new package uses the default JRE (rather than requiring an install of the legacy Java 6 JRE). I've successfully installed and ran this version on OS X Mojave. Before installing this new version I recommend completely deleting the existing version by sending it to the trashcan. You may get the error "UPM" can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer (or something along those lines)....

Santa's got me a brand new Pixel 3. I've migrated out of my old nexus 6 using the fancy google migration wizzard (the one with the cable attached to both phones etc). The UPM app was migrated too. But then after a couple of updates of the local database my windows computer stopped being able to read the database saying that the last block was not full (or somesuch). The only way I could recover was to take my windows computer's old database, upload it to my ftp and reinstall the android program (clean...
Probably API has changed. You can put your UPM database to Dropbox folder and it will sync just fine.

On a Mac just upgraded to Mojave, I downloaded Java 1.6, figured out where it got installed, and ran the following: setenv PATH /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home/bin:$PATH java -cp /Applications/UPM.app/Contents/Resources/Java/ -jar /Applications/UPM.app/Contents/Resources/Java/upm.jar
We have been using UPM on two LG phones for years. When my wife got a new LG phone and tried to install UPM from Play Stre it was not available. We tried to install from the Source Forge site but it wouldn't install. Previous posts suggest we need to install legacy Jave SE 6 to run UPM now. How do we do that?
I think you have to specify with which Java runtime version/binary you want to run upm. I'm not an Apple user but a Linux user and since when Steve Jobs stole the HURD code and used the GNU software, we can be said that IOS is "almost" Linux, only with greater limitations. So on Linux for example you can tell with which Java runtime execute a certain application as suggested here: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/178875/use-different-java-version-to-run-two-programs ..or googling aroud this...
