Another tip: rename the patch.exe file to something else. I use patch1.exe.
The problem arises in my case because Trend Micro AV (I think it was probably their online scanner) has left a patch.exe file in C:\WINDOWS, and gets found (using the Windows PATH variable) before the UnxUtils patch.exe.
