while being in a middle of a spamming attack on my network i decided = something radical, something i havnt tryed before, hitting the bastards back, the target = had ADSL with 8k/s upstream and 200k/s downstream. admin glined me of course upon login in his server,=20 but then i discovered something mighty wierd, if i enter an INVALID nickname like (3test) the server tells me = something like, "3test change your nickname and try again", whatever was my nickname it repeated it and told me to change it, if i = would change to valid nickname my gline was activated and disconnected = the session. so i wrote a simple enough proggy that opened 500 sockets, in each = connection it sends - 200 characters long nicknames!! - after 10-20 trys = on each connection it fails to respond. after a couple of minutes i = practicly brought the server to its knees. of course i stopped right away and didnt even told the target server = admin what was i doing. just left it like that. is it even considered a bug or is there something to fix anyway? hope youll make something of this info, sPD. |
