In regards to my previous post about the near total instabillity of unreal3.1++newdns win32 version well it would seem that as per usual its
probably mainly only affects win2k beit professional or advanced server.

So far and even prior examples mentioned to which i thought was a different first release of 3.1 turned out to be an oversight on my behalf.
Reason being that even though windows 2000
chucked a right royal tantrum win98se oem
    seems to be behaving nicelly.

Isn't it always the way :) as for bloody
millenium well i don;t even want to contemplate that monstrosity even though it likes my machine better than 98se,win2k,and even linux.

And no all you linux gurus out there before you jump the gun main reason i had problems with linux is because its not nice towards ata66
and a number of other components on my system
to which there isnt easilly available drivers
for eg me connecting to the net to get them even from here or elsewhere due to telstras silly
    adsl policy.

Back to the matter at hand i'll be testing
    unreal3.1 fairly rigourously on win98se
again as maybe my first fears arent as bad as i thought i think i'll have the same results as last time before i went to win2k.

I haven't put on altaserv or any services just yet
thats next and will be a good test to see if my hunch is correct.

So far so good i dont know if anything i've mentioned helps chances are not but me sending in the debug/info from win2k misfortunes would've just flooded your forum due to it being something different every time the errors were cominghard and fast just about anything that requiired it to think made it fall on its head.

But win2k has a nasty tendancy of making things do that. I'll report back after i have a more
    definitive result on win98se.

    Regards from Admin of b.e.r.l

Ok after much procastination and umming and arring
i'm back with a happier report the latest win32 version on offer the 3.1 silverheart version (i think) is running ALMOST stable on win98Se.

It still has its moments and when i catch it next i'll send in the error messges.

But so far the only time it stacks is when it seems to get confused i put it down to
      a clash of events.

For example sometimes i've come home to
find the server crashed due to me trying
to login remotelly from another persons
      dialup account.

It seems to be simple little things that get it
chucking a tantrum me thinks its a bit of
a multitasking sort of an error.

Somehow it gets settled into a pattern
and once its broken and things start randomly happening all of a sudden eg say more than
2 users logon simultaenously the system
      spits.

And no its not my connection for those of
you thinking that as mentioned above
i'm running adsl 1.5mb downstream 256 kb up.

Hence thats more than ample for my miniscule
      amount of users.

So lets recap it looks as though unreal3.1 on
win98 is more stable and happier.
Whereas on Win2k it's just the pits
      constantly crashing.

Makes me wonder what it'd be like on
Me eeeeek shudder i hate to think.

Also for anyone reading this with technical
knowledge perhaps you can help answer a question
of mine recently here in Oz our ACA
has changed the laws in regards to UHF c.b
we have now got allocated 2ch's dedicated
      to data and telemetry.

Now as you can imagine others&myself diabolical minds have come to the notion of well
WhY NoT use packet radio on there much like
      the hams do on 70cm.

Now to my knowledge all i've seen for
packet is BBs type software to be used in
      conjunction with digipeaters etc.

NOW big question being due to the fact that
bbs software shares a lot of similarities
      to IRC software.
Could it be possible to say be able
to link my Unreal powered IRC server
to the packet data side of things and have people
      login via that way aswell?

A few of us here in Oz have toyed with the idea
but no ones (to my knowledge) trialed or tested
      anything yet.

Maybe this could be a side project for
unreal allthough i reallise you guys are
busy enough just trying to keep this irc
software happening anyway just a question/suggestion.

Any ideas or repsonses etc will be greatly appreciated beit on here or for more
direct and rapid response you can contact
      me on dave_338@hotmail.com

Many thanks and 73's (keep up the goodwork)

After much hair removal via stress i decided
to completelly scrap alterserv as the dam thing was just to Vague. Now i see why it wasn't on the links page unfortunatelly not enough effort was put into its design and creation and the maker was
non existant to contact yet he releases V3.0 which is a complete bucket of crud.

On thing i can speak highly of and praise fully.
Is the modded Daylight Services mentioned
      in the subject line above.

Well done even for a relativelly new simppleton
like myself i found this program to be wicked.
I spent maybe 15-30mins total setup time
just learning and making things work the way i wanted.

Some of the timing routines as mentioned in the text file are a bit touchy but overall i'm
very pleased with this software for win95 etc
      systems.

At first it made unreal ircd stack but after
a restart and a tadd more tweaking BOOM
back in business now my server (berl) is
      running almost rock solid :)

To the makers/designers/recoders i salute you
this is truelly well done as i haven't
had a problem yet plus the fact its feature packed i love it beats the $h^t out of
      alterserv.

P.S sad note about the packet radio linking
idea for UHF C.B after going through the
fineprint i discovered that NO where not allowed
to use packet on those two ch allocated.

Pfft what a crock !!! and what do they classify
telemetry as gawwd its just a different form of
data transfer.Well thats beurocracy for ya.

But if anyone has any ideas still on the same
idea but just will be re allocated to a commercial
frequency still drop me a line cos
i'd like to see if IRC can be ported or whatever ya call it to packet radio.

Probably an impossible ask but hey a challenge
for those out there who know how to do it?

Regards and 73's from the land of Oz.

I have the version over 2k3 for HUB, very inerested in top security with openSSL and Selene beta proyect, Im in the X.X.X Auspice Problem, and I need top version, of services for top version. I think that is stable for run over native 2k services, Im runing over 2k3 with this fix. Only for pure stack of TCP/IP is available, 2k/XP/2k3 I think. Im afraid with the OpenSSL stacks problems too. And I want know what version is stable for my mode [z] too.
