ODBC is an open specification for providing application developers with a predictable API with which to access Data Sources. Data Sources include SQL Servers and any Data Source with an ODBC Driver.
The specification has been used widely on MS Platforms for years - now unixODBC provides this option on all other platforms such as; Linux and OSX.
The unixODBC Project has been consistently improved over its 3 years of existence. It is expected that this will continue at an even greater pace now that unixODBC has arrived on Source Forge.
