Terms

Jin Asanami / Hayate Nakamura

This page explains the terminology used in UVE. If you decide to add one, put it in alphabetical order.
See here→Arch terminology (ArchWiki)

ABS

JOTR, an commercial broadcasting station in Akita Prefecture. TV broadcasts on 35 channels and is affiliated with the Nippon TV network. Radio broadcasts on 936 kHz and is affiliated with both JRN and NRN networks.
Arch Build System, which lets you create new packages for software that doesn't yet exist, modify existing packages, get kernel modules, and even rebuild entire systems with flags like Gentoo (does anyone do that?).
It is somewhat like BSD's "Ports": it is not essential to use, but it is quite useful.

Alchg Linux

Arch-based distro of GNU/Linux developed by the Alchg Project. Pronounce "Alchg" as "Ol-cheg".
When running live, you can select "Copy to RAM" to run as fast as your resources allow. Desktop environment is built with Openbox and tint2.

Alter Linux

First Arch-based GNU/Linux in Japan, developed by the Fascode Network. It is stronger than UVE in that it uses a modified Zen kernel, is fully Japanese, and has a 32-bit version. It shares many features with UVE, such as the Calamares installer, multiple editions, and sharing repositories with Arch. In fact, UVE is like Alter (but not Alter-based).
Derivative operating systems include "GrowthLinux" and "AquaLightOS."

Arch Linux

Root of all. "Simplicity" without unnecessary additions and modifications, "Modernity" with rolling releases and continuous upgrades, "Pragmatism" more than ideal, "User centrality" to meet the needs of contributors, "Universal" to add your favorite software, and "Elegance".

AUR

An unofficial repository that differs from others in that build scripts are distributed instead of binary packages. You can write and post a shell script called "PKGBUILD" and download it from here to create a package. The finished package can be installed as is with Pacman.

Channels

Definition files for Archiso. UVE is developed using Archiso.
You can download it from GitHub.

GNU

A Unix-like operating system that is a recursive acronym for "GNU is not Unix." Because the "Hurd" kernel is not yet complete, there are operating systems with kernels such as Linux and FreeBSD.
There's also an "Arch Hurd" distro, which is 32-bit system only and hasn't been updated since 2019.

KISS

This stands for "Keep it simple, stupid!". It is a sentence with an attitude that makes fun of others, but this principle is important. Mr. Einstein said, "Everything should be simple, but it is not good to be too simple." It is "Gentoo" that is too simple and over-spec. You just have to use any operating system you like.
Unrelated to the hentai game label of WORKMAN CO.,LTD. (and that is unrelated to the workwear store with same name.)

LGX

This stands for Linux/GNU/X. NJB recommends that systems that use the Linux kernel, GNU libraries, and the X Window System be referred to as such. Of course, Univalent and Kamuriki are one of LGXs.
A distro, called "Yggdrasil", was the first to use the name.
Recently there are systems that use Wayland instead of X, which should be called "LGW".

Linux

The kernel that Mr. L. Torvalds is leading the development of. The OS built with the GNU software described above is called "GNU/Linux."
In addition to the original kernel, there are modified versions such as "Linux Zen", which was developed for the Arch line, and "Linux-libre", which completely eliminated proprietary things. The meaning of "Linux is not UNIX" was added as an afterthought.

Naka-mura Jukebox

An amateur group that developeing this distro. The slogan is "Tomorrow's me will do it all." Formerly known as "Radio New Japan".
July 9, 2022 marked the fifth anniversary of the group's founding.

Repository

Where the package is located. For more information, see Repository List.

Spelling

UVE should be referred to as:
* Univalent Versatile Environment
* Univalent (Versatile Environment implied)
* UVE (Official abbreviation)
* univalentgnulinux (UNIX name)

Other than this, it seems to be a mistake, but that part of the group is a mess, too.

Univalent

Abbreviation of the first three letters of "universal," "valiant," and "entertaining."
