Initial announcement

Welcome to the unichrome project.

We aim to:
- consolidate existing but scattered documentation, knowledge, code and effort,
- provide a breeding ground and testbed for large changes and experimental stuff (to be submitted to the relevant projects when deemed acceptable),
- provide binaries, packages, documentation and general user support.

All of this in close sync with the relevant projects. These projects are currently identified as Xfree86 and DRI/DRM but unichrome should not be limited to these projects only.

For people from xfree86 and DRI/DRM: We explicitly do not try to fork off from or replace your projects. We just realized that there is a lot that needs to be done for this particular driver and that it is not always as easy to do this from within. By allowing developers to make bolder changes and by testing these swiftly and rigorously we will attempt to further these drivers while also ensuring that only good, well tested code gets submitted to your projects.

For people from the viaarena forum: Your forum has largely been monopolized for via driver development. With this move we will offload your forum and let it resume its normal functioning.

Discussions on structure and organization, testing schedule and release management should follow in the open discussion forum. We would very much welcome participation from everyone who is interested.
