A Tray icon is against one of the design principles of umtsmon.

umtsmon should work on all Linuxes as it should be something people install later, not at install time.

Tray icons are a beast that works different for at least some of the window managers/desktops.
Unless we start implementing dlopen()'ed libraries that each handle a window manager, this cannot be done in a backwards compatible way.
And that solution is *waaay* to complicated.
