Hi, UFRaw 0.21 was just released, based on dcraw 9.23. This is a maintenance release with some bug fixes. UFRaw is in low maintenance mode and could use some help. Any help would be welcome, but I can think of two areas that require special attention. One is migrating from GTK2 to GTK3. The other is to revive the windows installer. Udi |

Hi all ms-windows users, I forgot to add some DLLs to the windows installer. I have uploaded a new fixed installer: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ufraw/files/ufraw/ufraw-0.19.2/ufraw-0.19.2-2-setup.exe/download Sorry for the noise, Udi On Mon, Mar 25, 2013 at 1:04 AM, Udi Fuchs <udi...@gm...> wrote: > Hi, > > I just released UFRaw 0.19.2 with a fair share of bug fixes. > > Enjoy, > Udi |

Hi, Due to a crash bug in the last release, I'm making another quick release of UFRaw. The good news for this release is that it includes a win32 installer. With this installer UFRaw is a stand-alone application and it no longer depends on GIMP. The up-side is that it should work more reliably, without the DLL issues that many users had. One downside is that the installer is much bigger (9MB) and requires much more disk space (53MB). Another downside is that there is no GIMP plug-in. You only get a the stand-alone version of UFRaw. A plug-in executable (ufraw-gimp.exe) is included, but it does not function. It will not work with GIMP-2.8. There might be a way to get it to work with GIMP-2.6, but I did not try. Udi |

I forgot to mention in the last mail, that this release of UFRaw does not include a windows installer. You can find such installers on different sites such as http://www.partha.com/ I might publish a windows installer on a later date. UFRaw 0.17 has just been released. The major new feature of this release is lens distortion corrections based on the lensfun library. There are already hundreds of lenses in the lensfun database. If your lenses are supported you will get automatic lens distortion corrections with this release. If your lens is not supported, you should check out: http://lensfun.berlios.de/lens-calibration/ for information on how to calibrate your lens and add it to the lensfun database. Package maintainers and other people who build UFRaw from source should notice that UFRaw requires lensfun version 0.2.5. Another important change is that we switched to time based releases. You should expect a new release of UFRaw every six month, in the beginning of March and September. Other notable changes: * Added a despeckling/denoising algorithm to solve issues with images taken under very difficult lighting conditions, like deep sea diving. It may be useful in other situations too. Patch by Frank van Maarseveen. * Enabled hot pixel elimination by default. * Calculate live histogram from working color-space instead of display color-space. Calculate live histogram from cropped area only. Based on patches by Konrad. * Added auto-crop option. * Allow upto 400% zoom. Newly supported cameras thanks to dcraw 8.99: * Canon PowerShot S90 * Canon EOS 550D / Digital Rebel T2i / Kiss Digital X4 * Canon EOS-1D Mark IV * Casio EX-Z750 * Fuji FinePix S200EXR * Pentax K-x * Samsung NX10 Udi |

Hi, I'm pleased to announce the release of UFRaw-0.16. The major new feature of this release is 100% zoom. Yet I must warn you all that what you are seeing is not the final implementation. The current implementation is a bit slow and setting the zoom level to 100% will freeze the user interface for a few seconds. By the next version of UFRaw this should be fixed. Other interesting new features include image rotation by arbitrary angle and adjustment of color lightness by hue. In addition 39 new cameras are supported (see list below). We also have 2 new translations, for a total of 17 languages, of which, 12 translations are complete. More detailed list of changes: * New German translation by Matthias Urlichs and Chris Leick. * New Simplified Chinese translation. * Added --with-gtk configuration option to make GTK optional. * When GTK is used, the GtkImageView library is mandatory. * Added lightness adjustmens by hue. Based on patch by Bruce Guenter. * Added --color-smoothing command line option. * Added --maximize-window command line switch. * Configurable frame lines overlay. Patch by Bruce Guenter. * OpenMP support for preview redrawing. Patch by Bruce Guenter. * OpenMP support for VNG interpolation. Patch by Bruce Guenter. * Added rotation control to the transformations page of the GUI. Patch by Frank van Maarseveen. * Initial implementation of 100% preview. Based on patches by Frank van Maarseveen. * Added support for hot pixel elimination. It is an experimental feature enabled by the configuration switch --enable-hotpixels. Based on patch by Frank van Maarseveen. New cameras supported in this version (thanks to dcraw 8.98): * AgfaPhoto DC-833m * Canon PowerShot A470 (CHDK hack) * Canon PowerShot A570 (CHDK hack) * Canon PowerShot A590 (CHDK hack) * Canon PowerShot Pro1 * Canon PowerShot G11 * Canon PowerShot SX1 IS * Canon PowerShot SX110 IS (CHDK hack) * Canon EOS 7D * Canon EOS 500D / Digital Rebel T1i / Kiss Digital X3 * Casio EX-S20 * Casio EX-Z60 * Casio EX-Z75 * Casio EX-Z850 * Hasselblad V96C * Kodak Z980 * Kodak Z1015 * Motorola PIXL * Nikon D3X * Nikon D300s * Nikon D3000 * Nikon D5000 * Olympus X200,D560Z,C350Z * Olympus E-30 * Olympus E-620 * Olympus E-P1 * Olympus SP570UZ * Panasonic DMC-FZ35/FZ38 * Panasonic DMC-GH1 * Pentax K2000/K-m * Pentax K-7 * Phase One P 45+ * Samsung S85 (hacked) * Samsung S850 (hacked) * Sony DSLR-A330 * Sony DSLR-A380 * Sony DSLR-A500 * Sony DSLR-A550 * Sony DSLR-A850 Udi |

Hi, UFRaw-0.15 was just released. Not much time has passed since the last release, yet a few new popular cameras got supported, and there was no excuse not to make a release. The most interesting change in this release is paralelization of the image generation process using OpenMP. This means that UFRaw can make use of your multi-core system. Unfortunately, users of my win32 installer will not be able to make use of this feature since I don't have access to a gcc compiler with OpenMP support. List of changes: * Multiprocessing support using OpenMP. Patch by Bruce Guenter. * Add progress report during the loading of raw files. * Add JPEG optimization to reduce the file size without effecting image quality. * Compatibility with the just released Exiv2-0.18. * Support sRAW1 and sRAW2 formats of the Canon 50D and 5D Mark II. * Some annoying bugs got squashed. New cameras supported in this version (thanks to dcraw 8.89): * Canon PowerShot G10 * Canon EOS 5D Mark II * Leaf AFi 7 * Leica D-LUX4 * Panasonic DMC-FX150 * Panasonic DMC-G1 Happy Festivus, Udi |

Hi, UFRaw-0.14 was just released. 33 new cameras got supported thanks to dcraw and we have 7 new translations. Some of the controls in the user interface were shuffled, getting rid of the "Save As" pop-up dialog. Hopefully the new interface will streamline your workflow. List of changes: * Change license from 'GPLv2' to 'GPLv2 or later'. * Move save-as dialog controls to main window. * Add a 'remember output path' option. * Grayscale conversion. Patch by Bruce Guenter. * Experimental lensfun support. Patch by Andrew Zabolotny. Enable with './configure --with-lensfun'. Read http://ufraw.sourceforge.net/lensfun.html before using it. * Experimental contrast adjustment. Patch by Bruce Guenter. Enabled with './configure --enable-contrast'. * Added --enable-dst-correction configuration option to use local time (with DST) for file timestamps. * Arbitrary rotation support for ufraw-batch. Patch by Martin Ling. * Write EXIF data to TIFF files. Requires the soon to be released Exiv2-0.18. * Load private resource file $HOME/.ufraw-gtkrc at startup. * Replace the "use matrix" check box with a "Color matrix" profile. Patch by Rafael Espindola. * Remove misleading or irrelevant EXIF fields. Patch by Martin Ling. * Added --rotate=no to ufraw-batch. This is useful for creating contact sheets. Patch by Serge Droz. * Improved auto-exposure/black/curve tools by using normalized raw histogram instead of raw luminosity histogram. * For JPEG output, 2x2 sampling for the luminance components was used by default. Now for compression>90 we use 2x1 sampling and for compression>92 we use 1x1 sampling. * Use predictor value 2 when saving deflated TIFFs for much better compression. * Expand white balance temperature to 15000K. * New Swedish translation by Daniel Nylander. * New Czech translation by Milan Knizek. * New Italian translation by Daniele Medri. * New Dutch translation by Simon Oosthoek. * New Norwegian translation by Alvin Brattli. * New Serbian translation (Cyrillic and Latin) by Milos Popovic. * New Catalan translation by Paco Riviere. New cameras supported in this version (thanks to dcraw 8.88): * Apple QuickTake 200 * Canon PowerShot A460 (CHDK hack) * Canon PowerShot A530 (CHDK hack) * Canon PowerShot A650 (CHDK hack) * Canon PowerShot A720 IS (CHDK hack) * Canon PowerShot G7 (CHDK hack) * Canon PowerShot S5 IS (CHDK hack) * Canon PowerShot SD300 (CHDK hack) * Canon EOS 50D * Canon EOS 450D / Digital Rebel XSi / Kiss Digital X2 * Canon EOS 1000D / Digital Rebel XS / Kiss Digital F * Fuji FinePix S100FS * Fuji FinePix S9100/S9600 * Fuji IS-1 * Kodak C603 * Nikon D60 * Nikon D90 * Nikon D700 * Nikon Coolpix P6000 * Nokia N95 * Olympus E-420 * Olympus E-520 * Olympus SP560UZ * Panasonic DMC-FZ28 * Panasonic DMC-L10 * Panasonic DMC-LX3 * Pentax K20D * Pentax K100D Super * Pentax K200D * Sony DSLR-A200 * Sony DSLR-A300 * Sony DSLR-A350 * Sony DSLR-A900 Udi |

Hi, UFRaw-0.13 was just released, supporting all the latest and greatest digital cameras (thanks to dcraw). From the long list of changes the one that stands out is the option to save images in PNG format. PNG format supports 8 and 16 bit depth, embedding the original EXIF data and attaching an ICC profile. To top it all it gives an efficient lossless compression. List of changes: * Simplified output path logic - output path defaults to the path of the input path. * Added 'System profile' option to read display ICC profile from the X display. Based on code from Gimp. * Do not read/write display ICC profile from/to ID files. * Show camera white balance in EXIF page. Patch by Erik Burrows. * Automatically fit histograms to allocated height. * Read Canon lens from EXIF data. Patch by Andreas Steinel. * Improved PPG interpolation. Patch by Alain Desbiolles. * Remember maximized state of window between sessions. * Add color smoothing option to all interpolation. Based on patch by alexander melkozerov. AHD+smoothing is exactly the same as the now obsolete EAHD. * Added darkframe to GUI (patch by Bruce Guenter). * Darkframe subtraction also handles hot pixels (patch by Bruce Guenter). * Show spot values only if spot is selected and allow unselecting spot values. * Add FITS output. Patch by Andreas Steinel. This option is disabled by default. * Progressive JPEG encoding. Patch by Bruce Guenter. * Blink over/under exposure in preview. Patch by Bruce Guenter. * Enable --output option for stand-alone tool. It forces the output filename to the value specified. It is useful for F-Spot. Patch by Stephane Delcroix. * Reimplemented the EXIF page. Patch by Andrew Zabolotny. * Display flash mode in EXIF page. * Moved shrink/size controls from Save dialog to main window. * Added delete button to stand-alone tool. * Added 'send to Gimp' option to stand-alone tool. * Made the save-as button an icon only, to save space. * Added option to save as PNG 8 or 16 bits. * Write EXIF data to PNG files. Based on code from DigiKam. * Added aspect ratio control. Patch by Andrew Zabolotny. * New Spanish translation by Enrique Jorreto Ledesma. * New Polish translation by Tomasz Golinski. * New Korean translation by Homin Lee. New cameras supported in this version (thanks to dcraw 8.80): * Canon PowerShot G9 * Canon EOS 40D * Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III * Hasselblad H3D * Nikon D3 * Nikon D300 * Nikon Coolpix S6 ("DIAG RAW" hack) * Olympus E-3 * Panasonic DMC-FZ18 * Sony DSLR-A700 Udi |

Hi, UFRaw-0.12 was just released with many new features including full color management, cropping, rotating, scrolling, noise reduction, two new interpolations, a cinepaint plug-in, 21 new cameras and more. Before going into details, let me mention the new UFRaw wiki at http://ufraw.sourceforge.net/wiki. You are all welcome to add content to it. List of changes: Full color management workflow with camera, display and output profiles. Added image cropping. Patch contributed by Martin Ling. Added rotate/flip support. Patch contributed by Bruce Guenter. Added scrolling and panning. Based on the new GtkImageView widget by Bj=F6rn Lindqvist. Added support for dcraw's wavelet denoising. Code contributed by Niels Kristian Bech Jensen. Added Patterned Pixel Grouping (PPG) Interpolation. It can be even better than other interpolations in some cases and much faster. Patch contributed by Alain Desbiolles. Added EAHD interpolation. It is an enhancement of the AHD interpolation with another phase of color smoothing. The improvement is mostly seen in high contrast as it removes color artifacts such as chromatic aberration. Patch contributed by Michael Goertz. Read raw files compressed with gzip or bzip2. Patch contributed by Bruce Guenter. Display luminosity value and Adams' zone for spot value. Patch contributed by Greg Troxel. Added 'max zoom' (only 50% at the moment) and 'zoom to fit' buttons. Retain some hue and saturation when clipping pixels. This is only relevant when applying positive exposure compensation, and mostly for Canon cameras where positive exposure is applied by default. Added a Cinepaint plug-in. Thanks to Cinepaint developer Kai-Uwe Behrmann. Based the user interface more on icons and less on text. Dozens of smaller fixes. New cameras supported in this version (thanks to dcraw 8.77): * Apple QuickTake 100 * Apple QuickTake 150 * Canon PowerShot A630 * Canon PowerShot A640 * Canon PowerShot A710 IS * Casio QV-R41 * Fuji FinePix S5Pro * Hasselblad CFV * Kodak C330 * Leaf Aptus 54S * Leaf Aptus 75S * Mamiya ZD * Nikon D2Xs * Nikon D40X * Olympus E-410 * Olympus E-510 * Olympus SP550UZ * Panasonic DMC-FZ8 * Pentax Optio 750Z * Samsung GX-10 * Sigma SD14 Comment to package maintainers and users that build UFRaw themselves: UFRaw configuration process is very forgiving and will let you build it with minimal dependencies. Of course, missing dependencies will lead to missing features. Especially for packages, it is recommended to enable as many features as possible. New dependencies in this version are gtkimageview and libbz2. Dependency on libexif was removed. Udi |

Hi, There was a bug in the build of the MS-Windows version of UFRaw-0.11. The effect of the bug was that UFRaw failed to read EXIF data from Fuji RAF files. This is now fixed. If you are an MS-Windows user with a Fuji camera, you should download ufraw-0.11-setup.exe again. I did not bump UFRaw's version so it is still version 0.11. The only indication that you are downloading a different file is that the new file size is 1,225,384 bytes, which is about 400 bytes larger than the previous one. I will use this opportunity to mention two more supported cameras, which I have omitted in the last mail: * Canon EOS-1D Mark iii * Olympus SP510UZ Udi On 3/6/07, Udi Fuchs <udi...@gm...> wrote: > Hi, > > UFRaw-0.11 was just released. Hi, UFRaw-0.11 was just released. The highlight of this release is the new handling of image highlights, which takes care of both highlight restoration and highlight clipping. Highlight restoration is relevant when applying negative exposure correction in UFRaw. This allows to restore details that were originally clipped. The restoration can be done either in HSV space giving sharp details or in LCH space giving soft natural details. Highlight clipping is relevant when applying positive exposure correction in UFRaw. In this case highlights have to be clipped. Until now UFRaw applied digital clipping, which is scientifically correct, but can give harsh results. There is now an option to apply soft, filmlike clipping of highlights. In this version, Canon DSLR users finally get correct exposure by default. Until now the default output for these cameras was underexposed by about one stop. UFRaw is now translated to Danish, French, Japanese, Portuguese and Russian. If you want to have UFRaw in your mother tongue, read the instructions at: http://ufraw.sourceforge.net/Contribute.html#Translations New cameras supported in this version (thanks to dcraw 8.62): * Canon PowerShot A610 * Canon PowerShot A620 * Canon PowerShot S2 IS * Canon PowerShot S3 IS * Casio EX-Z4 * Fuji FinePix S6000fd * Kodak DCS200 * Leica Digilux 3 * Leica D-LUX3 * Leica V-LUX1 * Nikon D40 * Olympus E-400 * Panasonic DMC-L1 * Pentax K10D Udi |

Hi, UFRaw-0.10 was just released. I think the most interesting change in this version is in the way luminosity curve and saturation are applied. UFRaw uses LittleCMS to apply these changes in LCH(ab) color space. The difference in output from previous versions is very subtle, but I think that it is noticeable improvement. UFRaw now also has the infrastructure for translations. It is already translated in to Russian and French with Danish coming soon. If you want to contribute a translation in your own language, read: http://ufraw.sourceforge.net/Contribute.html#Translations Another new feature is the ability to generate thumbnails from the preview image embedded in many raw formats. All users will benefit from a much quicker generation of thumbnails in the Gimp plug-in. Gnome users can also enjoy full thumbnail support on the desktop. See the mime section in the README file for more information. Other changes in this version include: * Add the '--embedded-image' option to ufraw-batch for reading the embedded preview image in raw files. * Use the above code in the Gimp plug-in for a much quicker generation of the preview thumbnails. * Add mime types to recognize raw files in the Gnome desktop. * Add schemas to generate thumbnails for these mime types. * Modify the desktop entry to associate ufraw with these mime types. * If 'save ID' is set to 'never again' then .ufrawrc is not written after each processed image. * Add a 'Cancel' button to the 'Options' window. * Fix compatibility issues with GTK+ 2.10. * When handling ID files save output image in same directory as ID file. * If input and output filenames in the ID file have the same path, then input filename is searched for in the path of the ID file. This allows moving raw and ID files together between folders. * Some bug corrections. New cameras supported in this version (thanks to dcraw 8.41): * Canon EOS 400D / Digital Rebel XTi / Kiss Digital X * Nikon D80 * Nikon E3200 ("DIAG RAW" hack) * Olympus SP310 * Olympus SP320 * Panasonic DMC-FZ50 * Panasonic DMC-LX2 * Pentax *ist DL2 * Pentax *ist DS2 * Pentax K100D Udi |

Hi, I just made a bug release version of UFRaw. The fixed bug are: * Recognize Sony's *.arw file type. * Redirect exiv2 warnings from the terminal to the log. * Fix build for some build environments (libjpeg errors). * Treat Minolta's Alpha and Maxxum models as the Dynax model for WB presets. If non of these bugs effect you there is no need to upgrade, Udi |

Hi, UFRaw-0.9 was just released. The major highlight of this release is EXIF support. This has little to do with changes in UFRaw. It is mostly thanks to exiv2 that added supports to many raw formats. The supported formats are Canon (CRW, CR2), Nikon (NEF), Pentax (PEF), Samsung (PEF), Sony (SR2, ARW), Fuji (RAF) and Adobe's DNG. Still, this version of UFRaw resolves some related issues, so if you want to save EXIF data you better use UFRaw-0.9. Also the official MS-Windows binary is now build with EXIF support. Users on all platforms should notice that EXIF support is preliminary and might cause problems. You should check that the generated JPEG's work fine in other EXIF aware software that you are using. Other changes in this version include: * Display EXIF data in user interface. * Add darkframe subtraction option. * More conservative highlight unclipping. * Support filenames in URI format. * Some bug corrections. New cameras supported in this version (thanks to dcraw 8.28): * Imacon Ixpress 39-megapixel * Leaf Cantare * Leaf CatchLight * Leaf CMost * Leaf DCB2 * Micron 2010 * Minolta DiMAGE G530 * Olympus SP350 * Samsung GX-1S * Sinar 4080x4080 * Sinar 4080x5440 * Sony DSLR-A100 * Sony XCD-SX910CR Udi |

Hi, I just made a bug release version of UFRaw. The fixed bug are: * A crash in the Gimp plug-in when trying to use half-interpolation * A possible crash in auto-exposure when extreme values are calculated. In addition, this version includes a new version of dcraw that calculates the camera white balance for Canon CRW files differently. Therefore, if you own such a camera, you should check the white balance preset supplied by UFRaw for your camera. Report a bug if they don't match. Further information on getting the white balance presets can be found here: http://ufraw.sourceforge.net/Contribute.html Enjoy the new version, and keep on finding these bugs, Udi |

Hi, UFRaw-0.8 was just released. This version includes initial zoom support. The zoom is limited to 50% and there is no scrolling, these feature will come later. There are also new auto balance, auto exposure auto black and auto curve. The auto exposure should be more accurate, and the rest should simply work faster. Let me know if you have problems with these features. New cameras supported in this version (thanks to dcraw 8.13): * Canon D30 * Leaf Aptus 22 * Leaf Aptus 65 * Leaf Aptus 75 * Leaf Valeo 6 * Leaf Valeo 17 * Leica D-Lux 2 * Olympus E-330 For technical reasons, this version got less testing than usual, so please report on any bugs you find, Udi |

Hi, UFRaw-0.7 is now finally released. The biggest changes in this version are an improved calculation of color temperature and per camera white balance presets. We currently have these presets for 30 cameras only. If your camera is not supported, then check: http://ufraw.sourceforge.net/Contribute.html for details on how to supply us with this information. New cameras supported in this version (thanks to dcraw 8.05) include: * Canon EOS-1D Mark II N * Fuji FinePix E900 * Nikon D200 * Olympus C3030Z * Olympus C7070WZ * Olympus SP500UZ * Phase One P 30 * Phase One P 45 More changes include: * Show the channel multipliers in the UI. * Apply base curve before gamma curve. * Fix a few general bugs. * Fix camera specific bugs for Sony F828, Sigma Foveon, Nikon D2H, D1X. Have fun and report any problems, Udi |
