#25 Firefox mozilla build for 3.6.3 failed

Kenyon Karl

Binary package hint: firefox

Shortly after upgrading from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04, Ubuntuzilla notified me that I should upgrade Firefox from 3.6.0 to 3.6.3 following the instructions at the Ubuntuzilla Website. Since I also had problems with Thunderbird after the Ubuntu upgrade, I also arranged to upgrade Thunderbird to 3.0.4 (which apparently succeeded).

Note that the system saved a crash report, but when I followed through, the report was trashed since Firefox is not an official Ubuntu package. Given the way that Linux developers OUGHT to be working together, I am surprised that the crash report was trashed -- instead of being carefully saved so that it could be turned over to the Mozilla developers. Indeed, it could even possible that after 'finger pointing' exercises have finished, it could even turn out to be a joint problem.

I am also a bit upset about the strictness of Cannonical policies about application upgrades between operating system upgrades, as it interferes with the ability of the user to keep his/her system up to date, driving users to extremes such as employed by the Ubuntuzilla team.

This is not the right place to report bugs with ubuntu packages. Your report seems to be against the ubuntu package of firefox 3.6.3, not the ubuntuzilla package. (ubuntuzilla package is "firefox-mozilla-build", specifically "firefox-mozilla-build_3.6.3-0ubuntu1_i386.deb" for the latest.

This space is exclusively for the ubuntuzilla project, which packages
    official mozilla binaries into .debs.

Please also see the ubuntuzilla project site for details:

If you believe your issue is with the ubuntuzilla package, rather than the ubuntu official package, then we can talk at greater length. :)

Note that I am still running Firefox 3.6 after running Firefox-Ubuntuzilla 3.6.3 since the update crashed on an Ubuntu 10.04 system. Thus the problem must be a conflict between the recently released Ubuntu 10.04 and Ubuntuzilla. But I don't have a crash report to send you due to Ubuntu's policies about your software.

Well, I can't do anything about bugs in official ubuntu packages.

I would suggest to do the following:
    1. make sure to uninstall any ubuntuzilla packages (firefox-mozilla-build), and make sure you have the latest firefox package from the official ubuntu repositories
    2. start a fresh firefox profile
    3. see if the ubuntu firefox package still gives you trouble.

If yes, then file a new report on launchpad, this time explicitly stating the problem is coming from the ubuntu repositories firefox.
