#12 mode for multiplayer competition over local network

It would be nice to see a multiplayer feature that
works over the local network. (We have a learning
center with some 18 stations.) Competition can be fun
and motivating, but I understand this feature may be a
difficult to develop.

I got the idea after looking at two programs.
Typespeed [1] is a terminal-based typing program with a
network mode, and Avahi [2] is "a system which
facilitates service discovery on a local network." The
Avahi part is (and should be) optional: it just makes
finding local peers easy.
