In an effort to try to track down the problem that several people have
reported with their Voodoo cards (using the old non-DRI drivers), I
installed RedHat 6.2 on a spare partition yesterday and set everything
up like so:
XFree86 3.3.6 (Stock RH 6.2)
Mesa 3.2.1, configured --prefix=/usr --with-glide=/usr
I tried with *and* without SDL:
SDL 1.1.6 (CVS)
It worked for me, fullscreen, right away. I didn't have to mess with
~/.tuxracer/options or my XF86Config file -- it worked as close to "out
of the box" as can be.
I'm afraid this doesn't shed much light on the problems that others have
been having. The only thing that I didn't do was configure my sound
card under this fresh install, so SDL_mixer wasn't able to open the
sound device. It seems unlikely that that would be the cause of the
problem, but you never know.
BTW, RedHat 6.2 uses egcs 2.91.66, and I didn't experience the
rock-sliding crash that others have reported. Weird.
