Tux Racer 0.61a has been released for Windows. This is a small patch on
the 0.61 package for Windows; the only difference is that a more recent
version of SDL.dll (1.1.8 instead of 1.1.7) is used. This fixes problems
that many people experienced with version 0.61 on Windows 98SE.
If you already have Tux Racer 0.61 for Windows and are experiencing
crashes when the game starts up, you can download SDL 1.1.8 yourself
from here:
http://www.libsdl.org/release/SDL-1.1.8-win32.zip
Simply replace the SDL.dll file from Tux Racer 0.61 with the one in that
package.
If you aren't experiencing any problems with Tux Racer 0.61, then there
is no need to download 0.61a.
Cheers,
Jasmin

Tux Racer Version 0.61 has been released! It is available from: http://www.tuxracer.com/download.html This release mainly patches problems with version 0.60.3, but also adds a few new features. New in this release: - SDL can be used instead of GLUT for handling OpenGL contexts and mouse/keyboard events (the Windows build no longer uses GLUT). Using SDL gives better fullscreen rendering support under both Linux and Windows. - Added a fish pickup sound. - Added a "diagnostic log" feature to help diagnose system problems and pinpoint bugs. To create the log, set "write_diagnostic_log" to true in the options file; the log (diagnostic_log.txt) will be created next time Tux Racer is run. Please include (selected parts) of the log when submitting bug reports. - Cygwin is no longer used in the Windows build. - Fog can now be disabled (for buggy Rage 128 drivers) -- set "disable_fog" to true in the options file. - Added a loading screen (this fixes Debian Bug #75235). - X libraries now included in LIBS in configure script; this should fix some GLUT detection problems. - The configure script now includes a --disable-sdl option. - Arbitrary joystick axes can be mapped to Tux controls (thanks to Julie Brandon for suggestion and patch). - Fixed some 32-bit-isms to allow compiling on 64-bit machines (like Alphas); thanks to Jay Estabrook for patch. Tux Racer 0.60 has been released. This is the first public release of the game since Sunspire Studios joined the development. The game now sports a completely revised interface, new gameplay features, improved graphics, sound and music, and joystick support. You can get it from http://www.tuxracer.com/ (our new address on the web). Enjoy! Hi, I've created Tux Racer RPMs. These are still experimental and may not work for you. I recommend trying the SRPM if the RPM doesn't work. I've also released version 0.12.1. This release fixes a bug that caused the RPM version to fail on its first run, and it also adds a cool new course. As usual, everything is available from http://tuxracer.sourceforge.net . Enjoy! - Performance enhancements:
- Tux model simplified
- View frustrum culling
- Adaptive level-of-detail terrain rendering
- Now use OpenGL vertex arrays
- Pause key ("p" by default)
- Configure enhancements
- Other minor enhancements
It's available from http://tuxracer.sourceforge.net/ .

I introduced a silly bug into 0.11, so I've released Tux Racer 0.11.1. If Tux Racer 0.11 coredumped on you, this should fix it. Thanks, Jasmin |

I've released Tux Racer 0.11. This release introduces several changes for the benefit of course designers; they can now customize lighting, fog, and particle colour to their liking. The biggest change to gameplay is that courses can now be played in "mirrored" mode, for added variety. Two new user-contributed courses are also included. All of the configuration variables in ~/.tuxracer are now documented in the README file. Several other changes and bug fixes were performed; please see the ChangeLog. Enjoy! Jasmin |

I've released version 0.10.1, a bug fix release. This fixes a particularly nasty bug in the steering code, which resulted in far too many particles being generated. The course lighting has also been adjusted. You can download it from http://tuxracer.sourceforge.net . Thanks! Cheers, Jasmin |

Version 0.10 of Tux Racer, an OpenGL-based racing game featuring Tux the Linux Penguin, has been released. This is the first public release of Tux Racer, and I'm looking for feedback and help from developers and course designers. Version 0.10 is incomplete, but still playable. Tux can turn, brake, and jump; collision detection with trees works; and the physical model is fairly well tuned. Four courses are included, but these need work. Download it from http://tuxracer.sourceforge.net/ . Thanks! Cheers, Jasmin -- Jasmin Patry Master's Student, Dept. of Computer Science jf...@cg... http://www.cgl.uwaterloo.ca/~jfpatry/ |
