The big differance between Kid Pix and Tuxpaint is there is not a select tool that allows any part of the screen picture to be moved from one place to another. It would help put Tuxpaint in more schools.
Why this feature is not implemented/merged to tuxpaint?
I tested ReillyBaron_Watson.tar.gz patch against version 0.9.20 and I can select region and copy it. Making new selection crash the tuxpaint (reproducible) , so it is not fully workable patch, but maybe good start.

Along with copy/cut/paste within Tux Paint, it should support inter-application clipboard, to allow part of a Tux Paint picture to be pasted into another program, or vice-versa.
Finally, it would be useful to be able to convert a selection into a stamp, so it can be pasted later, and manipulated using the Stamp tool features.

FYI: select/copy/paste is being implemented as part of the 2008 Google Summer of Code program.
