You reported this for Tux Paint 0.9.14, which is from October 2004 (nearly 3 years ago).

Please tell me if this still happens in Tux Paint 0.9.17 or, even better, if it happens in the current Tux Paint CVS, with the new SDL_Pango renderer.

(I do not see this problem with Tux Paint in CVS on Kubuntu Feisty using SDL_Pango that ships with Kubuntu.)

    Thank you.

Screenshot of 0.9.18cvs 2007-08-03 with SDL_Pango support in "chinese" (aka "simplified-chinese") locale.

FYI, you didn't mention whether you were using Chinese (Simplified) ("--lang chinese" or "--lang simplified-chinese", the zh_CN locale) or Chinese (Traditional) ("--lang traditional-chinese", the zh_TW locale).

So, I also tested with "traditional-chinese", and it look fine (no squares) using what's in CVS right now with SDL_Pango, too.

    Thanks.

Just to confirm - You are building Tux Paint 0.9.18 from CVS on Windows and Mac OS X? (If not, then you must NOT be using 0.9.18, because it has not been released yet, and no Windows or Mac OS X builds exist.)

The version number appears when Tux Paint starts up, on the splash screen. Additionally, you can run the executable from a command-line with "--version" as an argument, to get the version number. The installed documentation should also include the version, at the top.

Just want to make sure I'm not chasing a non-issue. ;) Thanks.

Have not received a response in weeks. Works for me, with 0.9.18 in CVS and SDL_Pango.
