Tinting SVGs can be very slow

Per Andre Anckaert, using the "tintable" feature on an SVG stamp (e.g., "animals/insects/cartoon/ant.svg") can be very slow, for every single application of the stamp to the canvas. This seems to be true for all "tinter" modes except "vector".
My hunch is that the full-sized SVG is being rendered, then tinted, then scaled... every time the stamp is being applied to the canvas. That's sub-optimal!
I'm hopeful that this helps! https://sourceforge.net/p/tuxpaint/tuxpaint/ci/6735340566445311cce245145a07a13e50ea54b1/
