As a 5th math teacher, it would be cool to let the kids play your awesome game and then get a print out of the add/sub multi/div facts or a grid showing the facts they still need to master........... so they can study just those and try again. I also want to say thankyou thankyou thankyou for the many hours of hard work you have all put into this cool purpose driven program. My kids are gonna love it. I had thought about a game similar but using cowboys with problems on their shirt and they shoot cheese balls at your screen after so many seconds of seeing them pop out from behind buildings. If you answer correctly then your gun shoots them first. Of course more and more come out as you get better and then at the end it displays which problems you got wrong so you can work on those. The current version saves all of the incorrectly answered questions in a list so the player could play a new game focusing on these questions. However, I have not yet implemented a way for the user interface to use this feature (would not be very hard, depending on how polished I make it). Tuxmath has a lot of cool new features "under the hood", so to speak, and I really need to write a comprehensive new Options screen(s) to make this functionality usable. Also, reading and writing the settings to disk will make it possible to prepare a series of "lessons" - the file reading and parsing part is requiring me to learn some new and rather confusing topics (lex/yacc). > > I also want to say thankyou thankyou thankyou for the many hours of hard > work you have all put into this cool purpose driven program. The math questions are now handled by completely separate code from the user interface, so it would be entirely possible to write a different interface. > > Randy > > > --------------------------------- > Do you Yahoo!? > Next-gen email? See=20 http://lists.debian.org/debian-edu/2006/07/msg00077.html I did some minor changes, so r15 became the "official" 0.8 release. (r16 is= a=20 wrong tag, and r17 is the right svn tag for this release.)=20 We should also think of a way and place to store release tarballs. In trunk/src/tuxmath.h I kept "#define TUXMATH_DEBUG", but I think in futur= e=20 release this should not be defined, right?! regards, Holger |

Right - that should be turned off for releases. btw, I am finally making headway on the config read and write front. Ok. I left it turned on this time, as I'm pretty confident, that 0.8-1 isn'= t=20 the version which will be in etch finally :) regards, Holger |

I am a Technology Specialist at Ore City Elementary and we have been using TUXPAINT all year. I just discovered that you now have TUXMATH and TUXTYPING! I am trying to figure out how to download this to my computer and am having trouble. Please assist with a "step by step" or additional web site that could help me! Our site is not as friendly as it could be (there are some folks working on improving it, however). http://tux4kids.alioth.debian.org/ Click on "released files" (over on the right hand side) Scroll down to find your "platform" (Windows? MacOSX?) and click on the latest release (which is the top file in each category). From there, it should be just like installing any other software on your platform. Good luck! --Tim > > > > Thank you, > > > > Karla Beekman > > Technology Specialist > > Ore City Elementary > > (903)968-330 Ext. 250 |

It may be a difference between gcc 2.95 and 4.3.3. In svn I changed it to the following - try pasting this in: for (i = 0; i < mp_get_parameter(PLAYERS); ++i) { SDL_Surface* score; snprintf(str, 64, "%s: %d", mp_get_player_name(i),mp_get_player_score(i)); score = BlackOutline(str, DEFAULT_MENU_FONT_SIZE, &white); if(score) { SDL_Rect loc; loc.w = screen->w - score->w; loc.h = score->h * (i + 2); loc.x = 0; loc.y = 0; SDL_BlitSurface(score, NULL, screen, &loc); } } hth, David |

Made some changes. I would like to write "Tux Math"(without multiplayer) , "Tux Typing" and "Tux Paint" with HTML5 and then modify it for mobile devices using phonegap API too. This is pretty much my proposition 3 games into javascript without multiplayer for www and moblie devices at the end. Just tried it(phonegap) yesterday and made simple game using accelerator working both on my android tablet and smartphone. Greetings, Naimads |

Hi, I am on my final year of college in Croatia and for my diploma thesis I had to find educational games, translate one educational game that I like and make a web app. I chose TuxMath and I translated, compiled and installed it but I have a problem with getting .gmo files from .po files. I did everything that I found I should do on this problem but nothing happened. Also I tried to start the game in some other language, like German, and it just started in English. Can you help me? (I'm compiling it in virtual Ubuntu on Windows 7) Best, Petra |

This will generate an .mo file for you. Rename it to .gmo and you're done. http://poedit.net/ 2. Use the gettext command: https://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/manual/html_node/Binaries.html#Binaries > Also I tried to start the game in some other > language, like German, and it just started in English. (I'm compiling it in virtual Ubuntu on Windows 7) In addition of what others have already said, the current git version of tuxmath has a --language switch that you can use to start tuxmath with a different language. You can get the code with git: http://tux4kids.alioth.debian.org/git.php Also you should add the hr code to the po/LINGUAS file(I am not sure if that only affects the generation/installation of translations or if it is required also at runtime) BTW, if you post the translation hr.po file here, it can be added to tuxmath, oh, I see there is already a hr.po file for tuxmath http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/tux4kids/tuxmath.git/tree/po/hr.po Don't know it's state or the correctness of its translation, and I see hr has already been added to the po/LINGUAS file. Do you already have an idea about the web app you have to develop? anything related to education and/or childs?
