My thoughts, When I first saw tuxmath I didn't see cities.... Indeed I saw cactuses! It wasn't till later hearing Bill call them "cities" that I connected. I agree with Sams wife we should wait... maybe. I believe your graphics at this point are abstract enough to seperate the program from reality. One more thought, If you did make a change. In my experience boys are attracted to games with this type of plot, but girls lose interest very quickly. I would also like to see a plot that girls interest could be held better, maybe colaterally with what we are doing... __________________________________________________ Terrorist Attacks on U.S. - How can you help? But Idunno.... Jake's idea of goop covered cities does seem more palettable at this point also. -- Sam "Criswell" Hart <cri...@ge...> AIM, Yahoo!: <criswell4069> Homepage: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/ > PGP Info: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/contact/ > Tux4Kids: < http://www.geekcomix.com/tux4kids/ > |

But we would probably want to avoid calling the comets "spit" for ... erm... obvious reasons ;-) > but I agree we should give it some time before we decide 100% what we want > to do. I am actually feeling much better today than I did yesterday (I've been at the computer most of the day, and have been playing Rune for a bit of it [ug... I was hoping for more from this game ;-) ] so I've avoided the TV). I think that we will probably be able to recover from this shock, and make appropriate decisions within a week or so. > >If we do put it on hold, there are several other possible projects in the > >pipeline we could work on. The only problem there is that I am yet to contact the creator of the song we wanted to use for it (and, this is kind of important, as most of you know, because the game was really inspired from the song ;-) I have tried, but I can't seem to get through to this Skaven person (if anyone else has had any success, please let me know). > >again... Thx. Yeah I'm sure there are a lot of designers who have been faced with equally (or even more) depressing thoughts because they have created things that hit so close (I'd imagine that whomever made the final levels in Twisted Metal Black is probably wracked with grief over the whole thing.... And I would be most surprised if the levels weren't removed in the upcoming internet version...) -- Sam "Criswell" Hart <cri...@ge...> AIM, Yahoo!: <criswell4069> Homepage: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/ > PGP Info: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/contact/ > Tux4Kids: < http://www.geekcomix.com/tux4kids/ > |

I guess I'm really glad my girlfriend suggested we change the UFOs (which were pretty much crashing into the buildings) to something less violent. Shudder. -bill! |

Another thought (along the same lines as Jake's) I had was what if these comets were ice-balls (which is actually what I originally intended them to be). And what if instead of blowing up the city, they froze the city. One thing that could be done in this case would be to have problems on the frozen cities. If you solve a problem on a frozen city in a certain amount of time, you can actually save the cities (perhaps even use the lazer to melt the ice or something.) Idunno... it's another thought. -- Sam "Criswell" Hart <cri...@ge...> AIM, Yahoo!: <criswell4069> Homepage: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/ > PGP Info: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/contact/ > Tux4Kids: < http://www.geekcomix.com/tux4kids/ > |

You can get my test images here: http://www.geekcomix.com/dm/tuxmath/splat.tar.gz Basically, this contains replacements for cdead-*.png (for all the colors) and replacement explosion animations for blue and green. It also contains my original GIMP XCF source. These should go into "data/images/cities/" (except for the GIMP source). I am posting this partly done because I'm not sure I like the animation now that I've done it. I know we can tweak it as we go along, but I'm not sure if it's clear what's happenning to the cities. So I wanted people's comments before I proceed. -- Sam "Criswell" Hart <cri...@ge...> AIM, Yahoo!: <criswell4069> Homepage: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/ > PGP Info: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/contact/ > Tux4Kids: < http://www.geekcomix.com/tux4kids/ > |

I tested tuxmath on Peanut 9.0b2 the comets actually go fatser than the comet-anim.gif the comets only take 10 secs to complete the fall. Pnut 9 ships with the latest XFREE 4.1.0 w/dri & glx linux 2.4.10 the video performance improvement is very-very impressive XFREE comes with an app called glxgears that displays framerate copying that app to my RH7.1 drive allowed me to document the improvement. on my rh 7.1 box framerate averages 53fps this same system reports 80fps under Peanut 9.0 beta a 66% improvement. this video card is a Trident 3DImage 975 agp non-hardware accellerated card. I have heard of some reports of 3-4 hundred fps on some voodoos so the need for limiting animation speeds may be needed __________________________________________________ Terrorist Attacks on U.S. - How can you help?
