Hi, Holger Levsen <ho...@la...> writes: > why: because it focusses on tuxmath only, but we should solve this for > the bigger tux4kids project. Indeed, this was implicit in my previous email but I wasn't clear enough and I was not aware of other issues I just discovered. > I very very much applaud and thank Bastien for this initiative but I > *cannot* agree on it. Please include tuxtype and tuxpaint in it, and > quite very probably *more* tux4kids projects. My understanding was that Deepak maintains all tux4kids projects but I see now this is wrong. Deepak maintains Tuxmath only. @Deepak, is it so? > And, (long term) we need to come up with some rules / practices to > define what tux4kids is. After exploring a bit more, here is how I see it: - "Tux4kids" is just an ombrella for educational free softwares that use the tux- prefix. - Among those softwares, there are two categories: those who are well established and usable: Tuxmath, Tuxpaint, Tuxtype; others are more or less stable, maintained, etc.: tuxhistory (?), Tux4ME, Tuxblocks. I suggest http://tux4kids.alioth.debian.org should simply have four "buttons" (or beautiful pictures of games): 1. one to redirect to tuxpaint.org; 2. one to redirect to the tuxmath project webpage; 3. one to redirect to the tuxtype project webpage; 4. one to list other games (the Tux4Kids "lab"?). At the bottom, a link to the tux4kids-discuss mailing list. >From here: - Tuxpaint seems to be developed rather autonomously, so I won't suggest anything, the button would just lead to tuxpaint.org - http://tux4kids.alioth.debian.org/tuxmath/index.php can be updated, adding Deepak as the maintainer, listing tuxmath-devel@ as the main communication point and the github tuxmath repository as the central place for contributing with code and bug reports. - http://tux4kids.alioth.debian.org/tuxtype/index.php can be cleaned up a bit, advertizing the fact that the project is looking for a maintainer--I assume it is. - A new page for other tux- softwares would just list them, maybe with the name of a maintainer if there is one, deferring communication to the github repositories. > And yes, probably we should have one mailing list (only). But this list > then *must not* have "tuxmath" in it's name…! Would tux4kids-discuss@ be okay? > Again: Bastien, thanks a lot for driving this! Much appreciated. I'm > looking forward for a modified plan! ;-) Here is one: 1. Deepak agrees to be maintainer for Tuxmath *only*. 2. We all agree that there is no need for a Tux4Kids maintainer. 3. We all agree on using the tux4kids-discuss@ mailing list as the central place for discussing among developers, contributors and users from all Tuxy- projects. 4. Holger keeps the Tuxmath alioth repository in sync with the Tuxmath Github's repository, and we all agree this Github repository is the central place for Tuxmath development. 4. If Deepak maintains other repositories on Github that are also on alioth (like tuxtype?), and if those repositories needs a sync on alioth, Holger sets up a sync--otherwise those repositories lives on Github and are advertized as such on the tux4kids website. 5. I update the various webpage to reflect this structure. If that's OK, from there we can move forward: - Laura sends her tuxmath patches as PR on Github. - We clean-up "abandonware" on the Github repositories. - ... Sorry for being so bulleted-list oriented, it helps me think! Thanks again for your feedback, -- Bastien |
