Not sure. What's certainly missing is / are someone(s) who take the lead
in maintaining it. There are often patches and bug reports coming in… 

You are talking about upstream maintenance, right? Are you willing and
able to help?

Even though I'm not super active on the package (and tuxtype) I'd say
that it's maintained well in Debian…
