Just a quick FYI (from my experience): Public Schools may have a problem (the paper-work involved in getting permission for "non-preapproved" software installed is usually a nightmare in school districts) simply because if an individual administrator (or teacher, or even simple tech-head) is using the software on a testing basis, they may not necessarily have permission to do do. Private, charter, religious, etc. schools may or may not have problems depending on their circumstances (private and charter schools will likely not have many problems, rather they'd like the PR.... religious schools may have a problem simply because they might not want to be affiliated with non-corportate groups [this is a very if-y area... some may have problems, other may not...] ) (These things being said, I'd just like to add that I think the first places where we would see wide-spread Linux/Open-Source software use in the classroom will most likely be in the private, charter, religious, etc. schools, simply because they usually have less overhead technology infrastructure to deal with. ;-) -- Sam "Criswell" Hart <cri...@ge...> AIM, Yahoo!: <criswell4069> Homepage: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/ > PGP Info: < http://www.geekcomix.com/snh/contact/ > Tux4Kids: < http://www.geekcomix.com/tux4kids/ > |
