It'd be nice if we could see some of the back of the bottom left one's (is it Nolok) head though. Also, Evil Tux's exhaust seems to stick out a little too far from the side view. -- Ryan |

I look forward to seeing the textured result which should drop the Barneyness. I still think he'd look better with his tail sticking out behind the kart, with the posture either sat down (feet forward, tail backward) or lying frontways (feet and tail out behind). That could actually make things look really interesting with a spikey spine, a tail and big clawed feet waving out the back of the kart. But then again I'm not the one creating the model. -- - Charlie Charles Goodwin <ch...@ve...> Online @ www.charlietech.com |

Barney is very 'smooth' - having some scaleyness and more colour variation will help that a lot. > I still think he'd look better with his tail sticking out behind the > kart, with the posture either sat down (feet forward, tail backward) or > lying frontways (feet and tail out behind). Hmmm - maybe something more like a 'quad bike' that he can sit astride with his tail able to swish back and forth to splatter people who get too close behind him. It's hard to imagine a T-Rex lying down - so sitting upright makes more sense - but anything stuck behind his butt will obstruct his tail - so something like a bike saddle is needed - then we don't want two wheeled bikes because this is a karting game - but a quad bike would fit all those constraints nicely. > But then again I'm not the one creating the model. Indeed. Ideas are cheap - building models a good as the ones we've seen takes lots of effort and talent, ---------------------------- Steve Baker ------------------------- HomeEmail: <sjb...@ai...> WorkEmail: <sj...@li...> HomePage : http://www.sjbaker.org Projects : http://plib.sf.net http://tuxaqfh.sf.net http://tuxkart.sf.net http://prettypoly.sf.net -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK----- GCS d-- s:+ a+ C++++$ UL+++$ P--- L++++$ E--- W+++ N o+ K? w--- !O M- V-- PS++ PE- Y-- PGP-- t+ 5 X R+++ tv b++ DI++ D G+ e++ h--(-) r+++ y++++ -----END GEEK CODE BLOCK----- |

They look different when you can see the occupants - but from the normal viewing direction the differences are really too subtle. Steve Baker <sjb...@ai...> writes: > The karts are all tending to look very similar - I really think they > need to be more wildly different. They already do look quite different from behind, once the characters and karts are colored it shouldn't be any problem to figure out who is who. Beside that I want to keep them look all kart-like, I don't want the MarioKart DoubleDash look where some looked more an 'agricultural vehicle' then a gokart. http://pingus.seul.org/~grumbel/tmp/tuxback.jpg http://pingus.seul.org/~grumbel/tmp/eviltuxback.jpg http://pingus.seul.org/~grumbel/tmp/dinoback.jpg http://pingus.seul.org/~grumbel/tmp/tuxkart.jpg http://pingus.seul.org/~grumbel/tmp/dino12.jpg http://pingus.seul.org/~grumbel/tmp/eviltux.jpg One problem they currently have is that they already do differ to much in size, dino is huge, tux drives a kart, eviltux more something that looks like a F1 vehicle. However since resizing the kart while keeping the character the same isn't that difficult, it shouldn't be to much of a problem in the long run. Flattening the engine and/or spoiler should also make sure that enough of the characters is visible. -- WWW: http://pingus.seul.org/~grumbel/ JabberID: gr...@ja... ICQ: 59461927 |

Try looking at these when they are ten to twenty times smaller than they are in the screen shots you have now - that's more like they'll look when they are farther ahead of you. > Beside that I want to keep them look all kart-like, I don't want > the MarioKart DoubleDash look where some looked more an 'agricultural > vehicle' then a gokart. Certainly I didn't like the agricultural vehicle look - but I strongly feel the need for more extremes of variety...that uniform look is one of the problems with the existing game - something I really hoped the GoTM effort would be able to fix. This ISN'T supposed to be a realistic go kart game - it's supposed to be wild - crazy - cartoonish. The karts need to reflect that. The (incredibly ancient) TV cartoon "Whacky Races" is the look I wanted to aim for. We need to really push-the-envelope in thinking of radical and weird Karts or this won't have the 'punch' it needs. > One problem they currently have is that they already do differ to much > in size, dino is huge, tux drives a kart, eviltux more something that > looks like a F1 vehicle. Yeah - that's a good idea from the 'differentiating them' perspective, but it'll make life harder for collision detection and AI because a narrow gap that a smaller Kart could get through would be impassible by a much larger one. That screws up the idea of being able to make a single 'map' that shows the overall direction people should go... unless we make all gaps large enough to accomodate all karts - but then when the player is driving a smaller kart, we cannot make small gaps that are challenging to get through. There are also some 'ikky' problems when it comes to the spacing of some collectables that would turn nasty if we had karts that are much larger than the 'typical' size. Overall, I'd hope we could keep them all within maybe +/- 10% of a standard size. ---------------------------- Steve Baker ------------------------- HomeEmail: <sjb...@ai...> WorkEmail: <sj...@li...> HomePage : http://www.sjbaker.org Projects : http://plib.sf.net http://tuxaqfh.sf.net http://tuxkart.sf.net http://prettypoly.sf.net -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK----- GCS d-- s:+ a+ C++++$ UL+++$ P--- L++++$ E--- W+++ N o+ K? w--- !O M- V-- PS++ PE- Y-- PGP-- t+ 5 X R+++ tv b++ DI++ D G+ e++ h--(-) r+++ y++++ -----END GEEK CODE BLOCK----- |

What about using Nolok (the bad guy from SuperTux), instead of Evil Tux? It would also be cool to have Penny (or Gown) to please female players. Most games do Gown in pink, but a light gray may be a better choice. Anyway, color can be easily changed later. I'd say to make her thiner than Tux, stretch the eyes horizontally, make her using some shoes like those of Daisy, and add a couple of breasts (don't abuse too much :D). Also, she should have some feminine object. By the way, here goes the Tux's girlfirend (called Neva) from TuxRacer: http://rpmcruz.planetaclix.pt/trash/tuxracer.png I think it looks like a travesty Tux :P.. Definitively, a bad example.
