can you show some information about partition table? If usb stick can boot at the same machine and we always check partition table first.

I tried another hard disc in the target machine and it booted from the USB drive straight away.
I am still not sure why Tuxboot did not work on the other hard disc. Because the target machine has no o/s I was unable to to find the partition table.

clonezilla works fine with tuxboot, as does windows 8.1 iso. however xubuntu desktop 13.10 does not work and upon attempting to boot for some reason it starts copying files to the second partition on my hard drive

All the GParted files have been transferred to my USB drive with Tuxboot using a WIN7 computer
There are 7 folders and and a GParted-Live-Version file plus a GPL file.
Even though the BIOS in my target machine is set to boot from the USB drive it ignores it and boots from the main HDD.
I know the target machine boots from USB because I previously downloaded OpenELEC on it!
