It seems this documentation is out of date. For the first production, the firmware was not really stable, and many changes was made on it. That's why the starter guide recommands to update the firmware first. But now, the firmware are mature. They're stable, and are not changed often. The new Tuxs are uptodate, so you don't need to update them. Thanks for this remarks. We'll update this documentation soon.
