X-Tunes (PPC only and sadly no longer maintained) is little more than a preference panel that sets up a single global keystroke for controlling itunes. By default, holding down command-space displays a bezelled interface, displaying the current track and timing/volume info. Let go and the floating window disappears again. The left/right/up/down and enter keys could also be used while command-space was being held down, to skip tracks, change the volume or pause the music. The advantages are many:
- no need to switch applications
- no screen clutter
- simple, flexible usage
This would be a perfect enhancement of TuneConnect, ie a new view, main, compact, mini and none ;-)
Since spotlight now wants command-space by default, a preference would be needed for the hot-key. (I actually still use command-space, preferring control-space for spotlight).
Cheers and thanks,
