Hello..?? Anyone still interested in this project??? I've been snowed under & wonder if anyone still cares about this. Is Perl still a good idea or should it move to XML-RPC or SOAP?? Excellent Smithers, The guys from coopx.eu.org and the lead from Savannah (loic) are stopping by trovesendtwo sometime soon. I've been in contact with them (coopx) on the OSD xml data dump and they had expressed some interest on a transfer mechanism for the data to distributed sites. -Steve On Wednesday 21 November 2001 09:44, Luke Schubert wrote: > Quick update on progress: I discovered that I needed SSL support for a > couple Perl modules, so I have to get them installed (under Windows!) > before I can get any further with the automated login script ... > > Luke. > > --- Steve Mallett <st...@op...> wrote: > On Tuesday > > 13 November 2001 05:45, Luke Schubert wrote: > > > Things are slow ... work's been busy this week and last week. Things are slow ... work's been busy this week and last week. I don't have internet access at home, so while I've got a possible login script worked out, I haven't tested it yet. > One question: "should" we use the Freshmeat XML project pages instead > of the straight HTML ones? It would make pattern matching easier ... This is a good question! It would be easier. However; newly created meta-data entries added there? I don't see SF creating the XML anytime soon - I've asked them - & we're (OSD) a ways off from creating the individual XML. I'll play devils advocate here & say that it might be easier (to start) with using the XML at FM, but relying on it indefinately may be a poor choice. -- Steve Mallett | Stable, Open-Source Apps st...@op... | http://OSDir.org web...@op... http://open5ource.net/steve/ <GPG, Voice, etc.> "Non-cooperation with evil is as much a duty as cooperation with good." -- Mohandas Gandhi |

I'll see what I can do for the login part, though I don't know if I'll have much time this week. One question: "should" we use the Freshmeat XML project pages instead of the straight HTML ones? All right, we have a release listed on our sf site now... the files should show up soon, I'm not sure what they're waiting for... probably propigation to mirrors, etc... Anyway, if the files don't show up within a couple of hours, I'll investigate it more. Also, I'm not sure how much time you other programmers have to devote to this, but we should move forward on actually changing information stored in Sourceforge. Steven mentioned using cURL, but it appears the LWP library has suport for https, which is what we need. So, Luke, could I get some sample code that at the very least "logs in" to Sourceforge with a give usename and password and just retrieves their homepage. I'll start working on the TK GUI and with any luck I should have something by this Friday (the 9th). -- Ben |

Gentlement, we have code :) You can browse the CVS repository here: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/trovesendtwo/TroveSendTwo/ So we should be able to get freshmeat to list us. Also, it looks like we have a good start, thanks to Luke :) A couple of things to think about: 1. GUI? I have some tk experience, so we could use tk... any other ideas? 2. I think we need something we can actually use and manipulate ourselves. I just setup a trovesendtwo project at freshmeat. When it goes up I'll notify y'all. Trovesendtwo doesn't qualify for OSD yet (people download the directory in xml) so I don't want to include that, but if we can get a working version that doesn't mess up I'll put it in OSD too. If it will work with SF it should be easy as can be to get it to work on OSD because its the same engine running OSD as SF.
