This is a little more distro specific, but I plan to drop grub evilness in here. Expect multiple example grub files, along with some ideas of what would happen.

In the first version of TM, I had a script that pointed the root= line to a non-existant partition.

The first version of TM had a script that removed /boot/initrd*.
We can also modify grub.conf to use an invalid initrd. Ideally, both should be done.
