Dear Users: I finally updated the treegross.jar and the Installationsfiles for the For= estSimulator. Hope everything works. Otherwiese let me know. The ForestSimulator has been improved by Susanne Schimpf. She put a lot of= effort into it. There are some minor changes in the treegross.jar since Thomas Wutzler and= Richard Zinck discovered some errors. Thankx! This will be the last version of treegross in this form. Thomas Wutzler to= ok the code and worked hard to improve it from the side of software engineering. = So we will work on the ForestSimulator and the other applications to adapt it to= the new code. When that is done I will release Version 2. Greetings J. Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

The treegross.jar has been updated. It would be probably good if you use this updated jar. Changes : 1.) There was a mistake in the crown width class. For smaller trees the crown width was no calculated corretly. 2.) There is a new routine TreatmentbyLoewe2. It was very simple but effective. You have to select crop trees. Neighbours of those crop trees will be removed if the crowns overlap. You can set a limit on how much volume you want to harvest at on point. This helps that dense stand will not get unstable. 3.) There is a new class NormalDistributed. That provides normal distributed values between plus and minus sigma. You can set sigma. 4.) The normal distributed value is used in the error component of DBH and height growth. 5.) The generation on distributions has been changed. Since the Weibull functions from me and Greg Biging are truncted at 7cm, it is actually not possible to create diameter distributions, with a desired dg of around 7cm. So now in case the difference of Dg-( Dmax-Dg ) is smaller than 7cm a normal distributed values are used. The difference (Dmax-dg) is the value of 3 sigma. Hello everyone, Is there a possibility to use Treegross to process data on trees which are smaller than 1.3m (no d.b.h., height only)? Bogdan Brzeziecki |

Hello everyone, Is it possible adjust TreeGross to model forest stands in the rest of Europe, such as Austria or Slovenia? Hi Everybody, I have update the treegross project. I added an ingrowth model to the treegross.jar. The example program tgstandsim has a couple of new features. There is a rule based routine to perform thinnings according to the Lower Saxony's LOEWE program. Finally I work on an documentation which you will find in the download section. Greetings J. Nagel |

Dear everyone, I updated the treegross.jar and the demo program for stand simulation. The demo program has a couple of new functions, like graphics and a stand designer. Unfortunately there is always other work to do, but I hope to work on a manual, better data im- and export, thinning and a VRML routine soon. Greetings J. Nagel |
