(Is Laurel subscribed to this ist?) That is the general idea that we were thinking, too. Jim Leebens-Mack and Maryam Panehiazar are working on this. The ultimate goal is a tool for users to annotate a phylogenetic analysis and create a record for submission, in the form of a single NeXML file. As a separate issue, a protocol (e.g,. web services interface) could be developed to handle the submission of such a record to an archive such as TreeBASE or Dryad.
