Hello, Recently Transcriber has been having some technical issues mainly in IOS platforms. We're unable to solve these problems because there is no support material online. I'm indicating 2 of them that showed up recently. *1) “Old Mac version”: This is what happens when I try to open the Mac version (1.4.5) from the site.* *Warning* *The following disk images could not be opened* *Image / Cause* *Transcriber-1.4.5.dmg / older image should be converted* *2) “PowerPC”: When I try to open the 1.5.1 version.* *Translation: * *You can’t open the application “Transcriber-1-5-1” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.* Is it possible to have an opionion/solution regarding this issues? The position of the > respective <Speaker> in the <Speakers> element? > > Any help would be appreciated. > > Best regards, > > Thomas > Hi Thomas, The 'speaker' attribute of the Turn element is an ordered list of ids. The 'nb' attribute of the Who element indeed refers to the position inside this previous list, starting with index 1. Note that speaker ids are numbered following their order of creation ('spk1', 'spk2', 'spk3'...) but it may equivalently be random strings of letters. The 'Speaker' elements in the document header provide the correspondance with the actual speaker names. Transcriber was not designed with a very convenient interface for overlapping speech transcription. Its primary goal was to constrain temporal boundaries around, so that non-overlapping segments can be easily extracted along with their transcription. We tested and presented at LREC'08 a different annotation procedure (without temporal anchor points around overlaps) which proved much more convenient esp. for backchannels - see : http://www.lrec-conf.org/proceedings/lrec2008/summaries/788.html Best regards, Claude -- Claude Barras http://perso.limsi.fr/barras/ LIMSI & Univ. Hi, can anybody give me a hint on how to interpret the attribute @nb of element <Who> in Transcriber XML? Based on the following example... <Turn speaker="spk1 spk2" startTime="484.743" endTime="488.149"> <Sync time="484.743"/> <Who nb="1"/> la vue d'une sorcière est tout de même bien amusante se dit la maman <Who nb="2"/> ça veut dire quoi retrousser des nez </Turn> ...I had always assumed that @nb="1" would refer to the first of the IDs of Turn/@speaker, i.e. "spk1", @nb="2" would refer to the second, i.e. "spk2", and so on. This assumption has worked well in very many cases. However, here is an example... <Turn speaker="spk2 spk1" startTime="494.242" endTime="498.981"> <Sync time="494.242"/> <Who nb="1"/> le nez il remonte retrousser c'est aller vers le haut <Who nb="2"/> c'est rigolo <Event desc="pif" type="pronounce" extent="instantaneous"/> comme des cochons </Turn> ... in which it does *not* work. So: what does the integer in @nb refer to? The position of the respective <Speaker> in the <Speakers> element? Any help would be appreciated. Hi! I am revisiting a transcription made with Transcriber 1.51, but when I try to play it on my Ubuntu workstation, the sound is all noise. I remember seeing somthing about this (was it a problem with latency?) but cannot find the information nor recall how to manage it. It's an mp3 audio file. Anyone got an idea on this? Hi, There are just maintenance releases for Transcriber 1.* (i.e. we try to have working builds on recent Linux/Mac distributions) but since it is open source you can also expand it. If you don't want to dig into the code, you can alternatively pre-process the audio using another tool (as suggested by Nick) and then convert this segmentation into the .trs format, so that you can do the edition into Transcriber if it is more convenient. Thank you very much Nick, but we must work with Transcriber 1.5.1, no choice. Is possible for a developer to get the same feature in Transcriber 1.5.1?. Thank you. Hi Claude, thank you very much for your answer. I understand,I dont expect automatic audio processing, but automatic help, for example, if a transcriber cuts the segment while there is voice, instead in a silence period, cutting part of the voice, is not possible to get the program to move the segment some milimeters automatically, leaving the separation in a silence period rather than while speakers are talking?. I dont mean to recognize the words, just to help making the transcription better, by detecting sound and silence, or two different channels of voice. Are you one of Transcriber 1.5.1 developers? Thank you again, regards. On Fri, Nov 7, 2014 at 11:08 AM, Claude Barras <Cla...@li...> wrote: > Le 06/11/2014 17:25, Ivan Vanney a écrit : > >> Hi dear, im new in this list. Concerning overlapping speech or noises, it is an interesting but quite difficult problem, especially if you can't rely on multiple microphones for beamforming and source separation. It is far from a solved research problem even if some solution do exists - look eg. at http://bass-db.gforge.inria.fr/fasst/ . I doubt that currently an automatic detection would perform better than a human one, but it may help focusing on some sections: I am interested if ever you have a feedback on that!
