  1. Open the stencils
  2. In the search box type 'TRAK'
  3. Tap on 'Search'. OmniGraffle for iPad will return the results:
The results of a search for the TRAK stencil.

  4. If you like what you see tap on 'Download' to install it.
OmniGraffle for iPad shows you information on the stencil first.

Features on the iPad

Use on the iPad

General

To understand what connector is allowed to connect to what block within TRAK you need to look at the 1 pager TRAK metamodel. This can be downloaded from http://trakmetamodel.sf.net.

To understand the purpose (concerns addressed) by any TRAK view and what is allowed you need to look at the TRAK Viewpoints document. There are 22 possible TRAK views and the viewpoints document contains a specification for each. This can be downloaded from http://trakviewpoints.sf.net.

Overall considerations are defined in the TRAK Enterprise Architecture Framework document. This can be downloaded at http://trak.sf.net.

Blocks

These represent the stereotypes from the TRAK metamodel e.g. 'Software','System', 'Job', 'Enterprise', 'Protocol', 'Contract'.
1. Drag the block of choice onto the drawing canvas.

Connectors

  1. Drag the connector of choice onto the drawing canvas.
  2. Ungroup the connector by holding your finger on the connector, releasing it and then sleeting 'More...' then 'Ungroup'
  3. drag each end of the connector onto the respective block(s)

Limitations on Using the Stencil on the iPad

There are a number of limitations compared with using the stencil on OmniGraffle Pro. Some of these are a feature of using fingers rather than a mouse, some are a product of OmniGraffle on the iPad

  • no tool-tip text to highlight the name of each connector/block in the stencil (fingers, not mouse)
  • no identifying type name at the top of each block ... until you drag the block to the drawing canvas (confirmed bug with OmniGraffle for iPad)
  • cannot edit the note field (OmniGraffle Pro feature)
  • cannot edit user data for an object (used to represent TRAK metamodel attributes) (OmniGraffle Pro feature)

The chances are though that if you've got OmniGraffle for iPad you've got either [OmniGraffle] or [OmniGraffle Pro].
