Hello. We should probably start thinking about TrackEm development for next year. Here are my thoughts. What we NEED for next year - TNC Support working - Updated route information (won't have until late in cycle) - Much testing What am I missing? What I would like to see for next year - Rethink the GUI to make it more task based. (Try not to clutter things with most of the functionality on one screen.) - Get rid of the topology information in the network layer - Package it up into a JAR file. Ideally rxtx would be included so that we don't need to separately install it - Bonjour not required to run on an RF only link What we should have to be able to consider TrackEm "released" - Program to edit the configuration database - Documentation - Installer? So, those are my thoughts. I'm sure I'm missing things, and of course things are open to debate. Please bring up your thoughts. Also, are there any new developers on this list? And on a side note - I have a few small commits to make. They are anal changes to the way .equals() is done in some of the model classes. I've been having issues with my configdb though, so I haven't been able to test them yet. (Thus no checkin.) Thanks - Jason --=20 If we confuse dissent with disloyalty=97 if we deny the right of the individual to be wrong, unpopular, eccentric or unorthodox=97 if we deny the essence of racial equality then hundreds of millions in Asia and Africa who are shopping about for a new allegiance will conclude that we are concerned to defend a myth and our present privileged status. - Edward R. Well put. I agree on the NEEDs. TNC support needs to cover as many TNCs =20= as we know about, possibly using a config directory with separate files =20= for each TNC type. Easy to create files that would contain the command =20= structure for each. Possibly use config file structure used by another =20= program like Xastir to cut down on dev time and use existing config =20 files. On the like to see, I think an installer should be moved up in =20 priority. It would leave us a bit more flexibility on jars and such. I =20= hesitate putting an external project's files into a jar with our files, =20= just to keep licensing and such separate. An installer should be able =20= to check for rxtx and anything else we require and be able to either =20 launch the installer for that requirement or at least recommend that it =20= get installed. I don't have any objections to leaving the Bonjour code in, as I still =20= would like to see WiFi as a network option. If we can have a couple =20 computers in a location, the auto detection/configuration is useful. If =20= we can come up with more cell phone data cards, we can have a high =20 speed reliable (somewhat) option. I will have a data card soon from my =20= work with unlimited access, so this will help in that respect. I like the idea of moving to a probe/listen mode on the topology. Send =20= an update and listen to who responds, then include them in a topology =20= table. Limiting who the program can talk with to who the humans think =20= is a neighbor is easy to code, but not flexible in the field. It will =20= take a bit of work to get something going, but we have a bit of time. I would like to see a Google Earth import feature, so we don't have to =20= manually massage the data to get it to work. Anyone know anything =20 useful about XML? We may want to get together (as well as we can) to get ourselves going. =20= I'll be in San Jose on 11/8-11/10 for meetings for my work if our West =20= Coast contingent might be able to meet Wednesday or Thursday night, =20 that would work for me. Other than that, I'm mostly open on Tuesday, =20 Thursday and Friday nights for local meetings. If we go someplace =20 networked, we should be able to do some sort of conference. Please =20 respond with days, times, and locations. GordyCenter still an option? Thanks, MJ ____________________________ Mike Jensen KF6WQH Metro Skywarn 5127 (651)436-5505 mailto://kf...@ar...
