Sometimes one or more key get stuck (not litterally
stuck on my keyboard, but rather programmatically, like
the game doesn't realise I stopped pressing right)...
e.g. if right is stuck: the ball starts rolling right
even on horizontal squares.
I'm using 0.9.2 on gentoo

This seems to be a joystick problem. I commented out the
joystick part in "player.cc" and the problem seem to have
vanished.

Could this bug be the same for you? I applied the patch by
"neeri" and worked for me. your problem sounds related. The
effect is as if I was still moving the ball, when the
mouse/keys aren't touched. It happenned to me after I
played once fine. Second time (even if I restarted the game)
it would fail
gentoo too, using gcc 3.3.2
