This one didn't fail, but produced the same weird output.
This was not on the same host, but actually over the net:

Forgot basic info last time:

tptest-3.1.7 from sourceforge.net,
freebsd4-hosts, gbit-network this time.

tptest-server has insanely increased limits in the tptest.conf.
