[Tpctl-users] DPMS settings get hosed by apmiser on IBM Thinkpad 600e

There is something strange going on with my  IBM Thinkpad 600e running 
Fedora Core 2: when I start the apmiser service, the previously active DPMS 
settings are not applied anymore to my external TTF-display. In particular, 
it is not possible to put the monitor into the DPMS "off" mode. The screen 
turns blank after the the indicated period of time, but it refuses to switch 
off. As soon as I stop apmiser, the monitor behaves normally which is 
indicated by the power LED turning from green to yellow after some time as 
it should.
