Happy New year! As a new year surprise, a new version of Tokratan has been released, = showing off the basics of the item system. To play, just run the updater, and then the client. You must run the = updater, as the network protocol was changed. There's still not much you can do in terms of combat or skills, but you = can use the basic items (the server contains a few swords and shields) = to toy around with them. Expects more updates in the coming weeks, especially with new items. Bye and have fun, Wouter Project Leader |

Dear Subscribers, To show that we are indeed making progress, here is a new development = screenshot showing the item system. https://sourceforge.net/project/screenshots.php?group_id=3D108792&ssid=3D= 3915 Equipping/unequipping items isn't implemented yet, but as soon as that's = done, I'll deploy the new version. This all should take about a week I think. See it as a new year's gift = perhaps. Greets, Wouter Project Leader |

Dear Subcribers, I send you this progress report to prove that work on Tokratan = continues! Over the past weeks, I have developed a new game server (yes, again), = this time in Java, re-using large portions of the Java client. The current server is a lot more flexible and better designed than the = old C++ server. Right now we are working on different things at the same time, but our main priority is getting the item system to = work. Currently most of it works server-side (picking up, dropping, = equipping) but we lack a decent client graphical user interface for the = item system. Also, there are other issues concerning graphics, security and account = permissions that have to be resolved before we can deploy the new server = (and with it, the item system). So have a few weeks of patience. We all have exams coming up in mid-january, so I hope to have a release = before then. Bye, Wouter Lievens Project Leader |

Dear Subscribers, You can query the server status here: http://tokratan.servegame.com:9980/ I cannot guarantee that that information is always correct (especially = the Connected Clients), but you can be sure that when this page can be = reached, the server is up. When the page cannot be reached, the server = is down. Bye, Wouter |

Dear Tokratan Fans :) I covered some ground in the client engine today: The concept of height, view rotation and terrain transparancy have been = fully implemented. There's a small quirck in the height system which can be avoided by good = map design, I will discuss this with the map developers to come. View rotation means that the map can be viewn from a 0=B0, 90=B0, 180=B0 = or 270=B0 degrees perspective, just like most isometric city builders = games (Sim City series, Caesar series, ...). This feature was missing in = previous tokratan iterations. Terrain transparancy: when your player cannot be seen because he is = behind a wall or a tree or such, the blocking object because translucent = (meaning you can see half through it). This feature works really neat = and allows mappers to build complex interior structures. The system = doesn't work for just the players, it can be used to show the locations = of items and other objects, too. Implementing the Item system is next on the agenda :-) |

Dear Subscribers, As work continues on the Tokratan Client and map editor, objects are = constantly accomplished. Current feature list: * Basics of the map editor are in place: (multi)selecting, adding tiles, = changing tile orientation, etc... It's rudimentary, but it's enough to = build a very basic map * Clients can connect to the server and walk around. Since the item = system isn't in place yet, they're all naked :) * Global chat is implemented, and currently every account is allowed = global chat I will soon report all this on the tokratan homepage, and post some new = screenshots. Now that the basics of walking and chatting are in place, the first = release isn't very far away! Greetings, Wouter Lievens |

Dear Subscribers (yes, the three of you!), Yesterday, the core of the team decided that if we want to get a working = Tokratan version anytime soon (meaning this year), we'd have to make = some decisions. The version of the Tokratan client we will develop will use isometric = graphics, instead of the initial 3D graphics that we went for. The implementation language will be Java, to allow rapid development and = portability. This design decision should also expand the user base to both = non-windows users and users with less performant computers, since the = game will be less graphically demanding. An example screenshot of the map editor in development can be found = here: http://tokratan.servegame.com/~wlievens/tokratan/shot1.JPG. Announcement on the website will come when we have some material (read: = screenshot) to show off. Bye bye, Wouter Lievens Project Leader |

Dear subscribers, I've released a screenshot of textured trees in the screenshots section: http://tokratan.sourceforge.net/screenshots.php Although the textures are far from final, this should give an impression = of how trees will look. |

Hello, The first screenshot with textures has been released. You can view it = here: http://tokratan.sourceforge.net/screens/textured001.png Note that no lighting has been implemented yet. The colouring = differences on the water are correlated to the heightmap of the = 'wavyness'. Have a nice day :-) |

Dear Subscribers, (yes, the two of you over there!) There is not much to announce yet, as we are still far from releasing. Only team members will be given permission to post on this mailing list, of course. Also, check out the new screenshot in the screenshots section. I have chat support, but there's a problem with the login system (only one client can login, the other hangs on login, probably a critical section problem on the server side).
