Toes Online / News: Recent posts

The upcoming release will take some time to get finished, but will contain a lot of interesting new features and bug fixes. They include: better support for mailing very large groups, a profile page for users, enhanced statistics and improved member image management.

Back after a long silence! But, out of sight, a LOT of development has taken place. Finally the Dutch code has been translated to English and in todays release, Toes Online 0.5.0, internationalization is added.

After the 0.4.0 release, some people came up with quite some (mostly cosmetic) bugs, and since most of them have been solved and I'm planning some changes with quite some impact, I decided it was time for yet another release.

Some additional good news: the next release 0.5.0 will have an English translation! I'll start internationalizing right now.

After a long period of no releases, the old system has finally been rewritten to C# / .NET. The old PHP codebase will no longer be extended: all focus will be on this new platform.

This new release should actually have got a major number increase, since the entire system has been rewritten to C# using .NET, but I think the system is not yet ready for a '1.0' label. Most functionality (and database format) has been kept the same, but all running on a much stronger engine now, which is much more maintainable. It has been some time since any news came in, but not without reason. After looking over the sourcecode, we decided that it needed refactoring here and there, but PHP is not the ideal language to do such things. Actually, we decided that PHP is not the ideal language for this system anyway, partly because of the absence of code completion (because of the dynamic typing of PHP), which makes us go through all the sourcecode to find that method name. Moreover, we really need the possibility to 'compile' the source code: too many times, somewhere deep in the system, some functionality is broken without that we even know.... read more

Today the first official alfa version of Toes Online has been released! For now, the only translation is still Dutch. Since some unofficial versions have been released already, I decided to name this version 0.3.0-alfa. You can find the php-source tarball on the download page. Be sure to check out the installation instructions provided in the /doc directory.

I've put some screenshots online in the 'screenshots' section. Furthermore, the project has now officially moved to SourceForge, as the source code has been imported into the svn repository of SourceForge - so everyone can download it from there. I will now work towards a first alfa release, but for that, the source code needs to be packaged and a proper installation instruction has to be written.
