Hi, You can use an org.tm4j.topicmap.utils.testers.InScopeTester to do this: InScopeTester t = new InScopeTester(new Topic[] {type}); if (t.test(scopedObject)) { return TopicMapManager.BASETYPE_STRING; } If "type" is a constant, then you can create the tester as a constant in your class - so you would not have to be recreating it on each call.
