No

Since 3105495 was closed, I cannot make comments. So I have opened a new case.

Joe English stated that Tabs in the center is the OSX standard. We cannot think of any apps where this is true. Some examples of tabs on the left are:

Excel, Safari, Adium. What apps under OSX have tabs centered?

On this system, System Preferences.app is certainly using centered tabs for many of its panels. (Closing as we really don't intend to do anything about this, but not closing posting this time.)

Reopening; this is an interesting problem.

It sounds like lewins (Mr Stein, the OP) is looking for
a container widget that does tabs-as-in-tabbed-browsing
(like Firefox, Safari, and other 2010-vintage web browsers).

(Or and/also/otherwise wants tabs-as-in-spreadsheets circa early
    21st century.)

The ttk::notebook widget, OTOH, does tabs-as-in-preference-panels
(like -- well, like just about any preference panel in any
app dating from circa 1990 to present day.)

These are actually two different things!

We think DKF is referring to the sub-panes within the System Preferences (see A and B). However, Apple goes to great lengths to refer to those as panes, not tabs. As you can also see from the picture, those are buttons on the top, not tabs. It is a subtle distinction.

It doesn't really matter what terminology Apple use. In the terminology of _Tk_ the things I referred to are tabs of a notebook and the things you want are something else with different behaviours.

I believe this is therefore a Feature Request for a new type of widget.

The screenshot WishScreenSnapz001.png uses a very old style of notebook tab on the Mac; I assume this was taken from 8.5.x mainline which is based on Carbon. In Tk-Cocoa (8.6 CVS HEAD and its 8.5 backport) the notebook tabs use the modern appearance as displayed in A.png and B.png. (I submitted a patch for this a year ago which was accepted, search the tracker.) So I'd consider this bug report already addressed in CVS HEAD.
