When you install the MSI file on Vista / Windows 7, the default permissions might not be correct. This results in the Tivo.Net service being unable to later write its settings and other files to the directory where you installed the program.

Here's how I corrected the problem on my machine (this is WAY overkill in terms of permissions, but you can fine-tune later):

1. I installed it to C:\Tivo.Net (may not be necessary, but Vista and Windows 7 have a new "feature" that messes with writing to Program Files directories)

2. In Windows Explorer, I right-clicked the Tivo.Net folder and chose Properties.

3. I unchecked the read-only box, then in Security tab, I went to Advanced and removed the inherited permissions.

4. I added "Full Control" permissions for "Everyone" and changed the Owner to be my current username.

5. I saved and closed out of the popup boxes.

6. I open up the Services (or Local Services) control panel, and edited the Tivo.Net transcode service, and changed the "Log On As" to be my current username (and had to provide my password). I saved, then closed out of the popup boxes.

7. I started the Tivo.Net service (using the shortcuts that were installed in the Tivo.Net program folder) - this showed me the service manager starting the service. I looked inside the Tivo.Net folder and saw a new XML file in there, signifying that it was able to write to the folder now. I then used the shortcut to open the admin interface, and the interface showed up.

Hope this helps others..
