Hi Robert, I haven't had a Tivo in several years now; I'm afraid I can't help out with debugging the problem. Ubuntu has released half a dozen versions since I last hacked this project; any one of them could have broken something, unfortunately. If someone else on the mailing list has ideas maybe they'll be able to chime in... Hi, I was a happy tivo4tiny on ubuntu user. One day it stopped working. I have re=installed the 1.15 on ubuntu 10.10. When tivo4tiny start it has the correct media key. I have two tivo's and it has on in the drop-down list, but cannot connect to it. The other entries in the drop-down list are "eth0", "eth1", and "manual". Any ideas? Anything else I can provide to help? Thanks! / Sid / -- http://www.fastmail.fm - Access all of your messages and folders wherever you are |

A Raw will probably work but you need the unstripped libraries for FFMPEG available from Medibuntu. If you are ok with just watching it on your computer then MP4 will probably work without this but here is what I did to get iPod transfers to work: Install Medibuntu using the instructions from: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu Then install via Synaptic their versions of: libamrnb3 libamrnb-dev libamrwb3 libamrwb-dev libavcodec-extra-52 libavcodec-unstripped-52 libavdevice-extra-52 libavdevice-unstripped-52 libavfilter-extra-0 libavfilter-unstripped-0 libavformat-extra-52 libavformat-unstripped-52 libavutil-extra-49 libavutil-unstripped-49 libdvdcss2 libdvdcss-dev libpostproc-extra-51 libpostproc-unstripped-51 libswscale-extra-0 libswscale-unstripped-0 On Tue, Jan 26, 2010 at 7:28 AM, Will <wea...@gm...> wrote: > To all, > > Ubuntu 9.10 > > Last night I d/l week series 'House' (1hr long HD) it was showing it > D/L'ing on the bottom right of the program. To all, Ubuntu 9.10 Last night I d/l week series 'House' (1hr long HD) it was showing it D/L'ing on the bottom right of the program. So I left it for the night. You can also can see it incrementing. The file in the preferences were setup for the d/l '/home/will/downloads' which I do have that directory, and selected IPOD to decode. Look at 10hrs later there was nothing in the Download folder. Why is that. I running Dell Precisiion 690 12gb memory 2 tb HD so space is not a factor. Any suggestion please? Should I try raw d/l instead? Thanks, Will |

Although I can access my tivo by https://IPADDRESS, I am unable to connect to my tivo via Tivo 4 Tiny using the same IPADDRESS. I attempt to use the same MAK as both my password via a web browser, and in the Preferences of Tivo 4 Tiny. Running Tivo 4 Tiny from the command line yields no additional messages except "No destination set. Setting to HOME." I am running Ubuntu 9.10 and have tivodecode and mencoder installed. Any other prerequisites to get Tivo 4 Tiny to work? Thanks in advance for any ideas! |

I have no idea why old recordings wouldn't show up. There's no limit -- T4T just shows the list that it receives from the Tivo box. Errors aren't logged to a file, but if you run "tivo4tiny" from a terminal window, any errors should show up there. I've added the Medibuntu repository before I initially asked, but in hindsight, I didn't actually ask the question I put in the subject. I've got Medibuntu installed and I've tested it to create MP4s using an ffmpeg GUI that just calls the command line. So I was hoping to at least see if errors were logged anywhere, or I could turn on a verbose mode or something. Thanks On Wed, Jan 6, 2010 at 12:23 AM, Billy Charlton <bi...@wo...> wrote: > On 9.10, Ubuntu pulled out some necessary video support libraries. On 9.10, Ubuntu pulled out some necessary video support libraries. To add them back in, follow the instructions for adding the "Medibuntu" repository at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu Then you can install unstripped versions of the video libraries and it should work. I will update the T4T website with more specific install instructions for 9.10 when I get a chance -- just slammed at work right now. - Billy On Mon, Jan 4, 2010 at 4:27 AM, Jim Lind <spo...@gm...> wrote: > I'm trying to get Tivo 4 Tiny working in 9.10 and the "Processing" > just stalls. That was the problem. I've noticed on Ubuntu and on CentOS the Now Playing list does not include many of the older recordings. Is this a feature? I have a couple of Austin City Limit recording that 4-5 months old I want to pull off the tivo, but they don't even show up in the list. Is this a recording 'age' thing or a count of recordings thing? BTW, thanks for you work on this. -dewey On Sat, Jan 2, 2010 at 8:37 PM, Billy Charlton <bi...@wo...>wrote: > This just looks like you tried to copy a recording that was still in > progress, which Tivo won't allow. Just realized I copy and pasted the list without editing, it should be just: libavcodec-extra-52 libavcodec-unstripped-52 libavdevice-extra-52 libavdevice-unstripped-52 libavfilter-extra-0 libavfilter-unstripped-0 libavformat-extra-52 libavformat-unstripped-52 libavutil-extra-49 libavutil-unstripped-49 libpostproc-extra-51 libpostproc-unstripped-51 libswscale-extra-0 libswscale-unstripped-0 I am sure this list could be trimmed down even further but I would need to experiment to see which ones are needed for sure. Thanks for the hint. That makes the install a lot more difficult since before 9.10 all the dependencies would just install automatically. But, it's better than nothing. I'll look into it and get a list of the unstripped versions so people know what they need to install. This just looks like you tried to copy a recording that was still in progress, which Tivo won't allow. I'm going to add better error-checking so the app handles this a bit better. - Billy On Sat, Jan 2, 2010 at 4:46 AM, Dewey Coffman <dew...@gm...>wrote: > Tried moving this over to CentOS, but I get the following error: > > > /usr/share/tivo4tiny/tivo4tiny:892: GtkWarning: Failed to set text from > markup due to error parsing markup: Error on line 2: Character ' ' is not > valid at the start of an entity name; the & character begins an entity; if > this ampersand isn't supposed to be an entity, escape it as & > gtk.main() > /usr/share/tivo4tiny/tivo4tiny:892: GtkWarning: Failed to set text from > markup due to error parsing markup: Error on line 1: Character ' ' is not > valid at the start of an entity name; the & character begins an entity; if > this ampersand isn't supposed to be an entity, escape it as & > gtk.main() > 403 Forbidden recording is in progress > Exception in thread Thread-3: > Traceback (most recent call last): > File "/usr/lib64/python2.4/threading.py", line 442, in __bootstrap > self.run() > File "/usr/lib64/python2.4/threading.py", line 422, in run > self.__target(*self.__args, **self.__kwargs) > File "/usr/share/tivo4tiny/tivo4tiny", line 365, in startTransfer > self.labelStatus.set_text('%s %s - %s (%s)' % ( > NameError: global name 'title' is not defined > > > Any idea what is wrong here.. > > -dewey > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Verizon Developer Community > Take advantage of Verizon's best-in-class app development support > A streamlined, 14 day to market process makes app distribution fast and > easy > Join now and get one step closer to millions of Verizon customers > http://p.sf.net/sfu/verizon-dev2dev > _______________________________________________ > Tivo4tiny-discuss mailing list > Tiv...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/tivo4tiny-discuss > > |

Billy, You can get the version of FFMPEG (Called unstripped) for Ubuntu from Medibuntu. Not the best solution but it works in the meantime. Once I installed the unstripped versions I was able to rip for iPhones without an issue. Thank you! On Sat, Jan 2, 2010 at 9:34 PM, Billy Charlton <bi...@wo...> wrote: > Hmmmm... Yep, there's a problem with the Ubuntu 9.10 version of ffmpeg, which T4T requires to create AAC-encoded MP4 files. I'm looking into it. In the meanwhile try switching the output preference to "Raw Copy" and see if that works. - Billy On Fri, Jan 1, 2010 at 6:57 AM, Jim Holman <jdh...@ya...> wrote: > Hello: > > I installed the app in Ubuntu 9.10 just fine, entered my media key, and > found my Tivo. Hmmmm... These "no file created" problems seem to be troubles with the codecs in (at least) the latest version of Ubuntu and maybe other distros as well. In particular, the ffmpeg converter app has been gelded -- it doesn't have AAC audio encoding anymore, which is required for MP4 file creation. I'll look around but there may be no easy fix for that. If so, I'll have to switch the output format to something other than MP4 (like xvid inside an AVI file), but then it won't work natively on iPhones. Just to be sure, please try switching the Preferences format to "Raw Copy" and see if the file appears. In the meanwhile I'll see what I can find out. - Billy On Sat, Jan 2, 2010 at 6:26 PM, Darren Albers <da...@gm...> wrote: > It sounds like you picked an output format that you don't have the > codecs installed for. It sounds like you picked an output format that you don't have the codecs installed for. For example the iPhone codecs require the unstripped libraries on Ubuntu from the Medibuntu site. Not sure if this works for Linux Mint as well. |

Hello: I installed the app in Ubuntu 9.10 just fine, entered my media key, and found my Tivo. I selected a program to transfer and away it went. I had a file called tivo-6cBukj.mpg which was gradually getting bigger and when the transfer was completed, the temp file disappeared and I never saw a "real" mpg appear in my home directory. What happened? Thanks, Jim |

I just started using Tivo4Tiny yesterday and it appears to be working. The only problem is I can't find where the finished files are being stored. I set the destination folder to my home folder (though I can't click on the "Select..." button), but no files ever show up after decoding. T4T sees my Tivo and when I double click a program it says that it's downloading the file (and I assume will decode it when it's done). I can see an .mpg file being generated in my tmp directory, but that's it. Am I looking in the wrong place? The destination variable does change in gconf-editor when I change it in the program. FYI, I'm using Linux Mint 8 and just download the deb file from the T4T website. Four packages were installed along with T4T, so I thought that everything was ready to go. Any suggestions? Thanks. -Cam |

Tim, I am using tivo4tiny amd64 version 1.15-1 On my system typing in "tivo4tiny" in the terminal works without any errors being displayed in the terminal. I have been using the latest version of tivo4tiny " amd64 1.15-1" without any apparent problems for a couple weeks. I usually use alt+F2 to run tivo4tiny. However, I do not use Tivo4tiny for anything more than to transfer the files to my hard drive. My system is using KDE 4.3.3 but I also have gnome installed. karmic Release: 9.10 Linux ubuntu 2.6.31-14-generic #48+ureadahead2-Ubuntu SMP Wed Oct 28 17:28:05 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux Ubuntu Hopefully the information will help track down the source of the error. joe joe |
