strcasecmp() exists on OS X, so there's no reason to define our own stricmp().
Arguably, all the APPLE ifdefs can be removed. It's always defined(APPLE) && !defined(OSX). The last OS 9 release was in 1999 and the first OS X release in 2001. Is anyone really using something pre-OS X?

Don't define APPLE in the makefile. From patch #17 by Jesse Rosenstock.
