Running Timmon
==============

Binary Distribution
-------------------

- untar the timmon_bin-x.y.z.tar.gz file: 'tar -xzf timmon_bin-x.y.z.tar.gz'.

- change to the Timmon directory (timmon_bin-x.y.z) and type java -jar timmon.jar

Source Distribution
--------------------

- untar the timmon_src-x.y.z.tar.gz file: 'tar -xzf timmon_src-x.y.z.tar.gz'.

- change to the Timmon directory (timmon_src-x.y.z) and type java -jar timmon.jar

Doing it with ANT:

The easiest way to compile and run Timmon is to use the Java based
build tool Ant (http://jakarta.apache.org/ant/index.html).

It is highly recommended to use Ant!

Type 'ant compile' to compile Timmon.
To run Timmon type 'ant run'.

Doing it without ANT:

If compilation is done without ant, take care that your classpath
holds all files given within Timmons 'lib/java' directory and, of
course the 'src' directory.

Some classes are loaded via a factory (the front-end and back-end of the
Timmon and the property editors) so you have to compile them
separately. To compile the whole package, the following steps are
necessary (assuming you are in the timmon_src-x.y.z directory):

-compile the Timmon:

  javac -d classes src/org/dinopolis/timmon/Timmon.java

the option -d specifies where the class files should be stored (in
the above example in a directory named classes).

-compile the (treetable) front-end:
  javac -d classes src/org/dinopolis/timmon/frontend/treetable/*.java

-compile the (xml) back-end:

  javac -d classes src/org/dinopolis/timmon/backend/xml/*.java

-compile the property editors
  javac -d classes src/org/dinopolis/util/gui/property_editor/*.java

After the compilation is finished, you can start Timmon (if you also
add the 'classes' directory to your classpath) with:

  java org.dinopolis.timmon.Timmon
