Some days, I move from one activity to another every few minutes.
I've always found it necessary to have a periodic popup reminder every 10 or 15 minutes to make sure that I have the right timex activity selected for what I'm doing NOW, not 10 what I was doing 10 minutes ago.
I once did this using Unix and X windows tools, but I now use a Windows desktop to access my Unix systems, and I needed another solution.
I found this to be helpful, easy, effective, and built-in to Windows.
It uses the Windows Task Scheduler to pop up a reminder window on top of the current window (so that it can't be missed) without stealing mouse/keyboard focus (so that it doesn't mess up my work), and it goes away on its own if you I don't choose to acknowledge it.
