Timeline is a series of card games created by Frédéric Henry.
It is played using roughly 90 cards (in this PC version). Each card depicts an invention. Players take turns placing a card from their hand in a row on the table. After placing the card, the game reveals the year this invention was created in. If the card was placed correctly with the date in chronological order with all other cards on the table, the card stays in place; otherwise the card is removed from play and the player takes another card from the deck.
The first player to get rid of all his cards by placing them correctly wins. Game continues until all players run out of cards in their hands.
To start a new game, visit the game page where you will be able to choose...
If you invited Remote players, you will either have the option to wait for them all to join, or start the game immediately. Starting a game without everyone online will ignore inactive Remote players, so they will always loose their turns.
To invite a Remote player, you will need click on Remote Invitations link on top of the game page. From there, you will be able to send invitation links to your friends over the Internet. You will need to choose your own channel to send those links - either over E-Mail, ICQ, Skype or other means.
Once everyone joined, game will start automatically and you will be able to start placing cards.
Active player is always denoted by a green background. If you are the active player, you can click on any of your cards to play it. If you chose a card but you changed your mind and want to play another card, simply click on the other card and the selection will move to it.
Once you choose a card, available placement positions will appear on the Table. You can then click on one of these positions to place the card there.
When a card is placed, everyone will briefly see the year of that invention. Also, everyone will be able to see where on the Table you tried to place this card.
If a card was placed correctly, it stays in place. Otherwise it goes to trash and you will get another card as a replacement for the one you tried to place.
Remember: keep an eye on the turn timer on the top right-hand side of the page, so you don't loose your turn by being too slow to make the move ;-)
First player to get rid of all their cards on hand wins the game. Everyone else continues until there are no more players left with cards in their hand.
To make the game a bit more fun and educating, there is a chat button on the bottom right-hand side of the screen. You can see full game history as well as chat with other players in the game using this button.
